Thanks Rody Lee.

Who knows, he may have been a horse doctor as I believe there were lots of horses in the area.  he may even have moved or could have lived somewhere near Carrick-on -Suir.  Would like to get at some church records or BDM documents.  Maybe I'll have to plan a trip!

Many thanks  Girtbysea

Tipperary / Looking for O'Sullivans of Carrick-on-Suir

My Great grandfather was Patrick Francis O'Sullivan .  Family history indicates that he was a 'vet'.
He was married to Maria Cochrane.
His children included my Brandmother - Isabella Catherine O'Sullivan ( DOB 1866???) who travelled to Australia around 1886.  Two of his sons, again according to family history, were doctors of philosophy.  There is a possibility that they travelled to Australia and died when their boat sank in a typhoon off Westerm Australia.
I hoped that someone in Carrick-on Suir may know something or be able to give me some clues.  Thankyou.

Thanyou once again.

No sure of information source.  Much of it came from a family member so I will check with her.   Anything I have found personally came from the passenger list.

What would the significance of the port of departure be?  I think the ship sailed from Portsmouth.

I know very little about the crime.  The only description was 'street robbery'.

Clearly the more I know, the more I don't know.  I was hoping someone would have access to the Watermen and Lightermen data as that may show birthplace and parents names.  I'm beginning to think he fabricated quite a lot of his personal information.

Happy hunting

Dear Gazania

Thnakyou very much for your efforts.  Strangely, their not being on board is still quite helpful as it rulrs it out and the search continues.

Another thread I'm following is that they were on a pearling lugger hit by a tidal wave in the 1890's so I'll pursue
that line of thought.

Your efforts have saved me a lot of work barking up the wrong tree.

Thankyou very much indeed!

Australia / QUETTA Wrecked 1890 N Queensland

I am searching for two Irish great uncles drowned at sea and think they may have been on board the QUETTA.   I cannot find a passenger list for this British and East Indian Navigation Copmpany ship which sank off the North Queendland coast in Feb 1890.  Their surname was O'Sullivan and one may have been called Frank.

Any seafarers out there with records of such events, please help!

Many thanks

Dear Liz
Thanks for replying.  Have had a look at this site but am disinclined to purchase anything before I know the name is actually there.  I think the great great grandfather was a bit of a tricky customer so chances are there's more fiction than fact in the information we have.  Still all leads are welcome and I sincerely thank you.

Best wishes,  Girtbysea

Hello Sue

I'm another hopeful.  I would be very pleased if you would be kind enough to look up Charles Wooderson  (slight chance he was called Robert and even slighter that the name is Woodson 8)) who was born in either 1809 or 1815 and worked as a waterman sometime prior to being sentenced to transportation for life from Surrey Assizes in 1832.  He may have come from Carlisle or Bermondsey.  Much appreciated.

Girtbysea Australia.

Since posting this, someone has most kindly searched the records for me unfortunately without success.  Thanks very much to that person and other would be helpers.
