The best place to start is by putting up a message on Planet Burma's Lost Relatives page http://shwepla.net/Misspers.mv - give the full name and anything else you know such as the town.  You may be pleasantly surprised and find that someone remembers your relations.

I'll order up Mary's birth cert anyway, and also see if I can find any Licence or Banns for Sarah Miriam's marriage, they may carry more specific information with luck.

thanks again,
Mark

Thanks for all your work Trish.

Is there going to be a difference between Mary's birth cert and (Sarah) Miriam's? I ask because yes this does all fit neatly, but nothing really verifies the identity of Sarah Miriam, which is really what I need to do.

Trish, once again you are right - none of the trees coincide anyway.

That new information is something I will have to mull over - as always one has to be careful with the IGI too.

I am sure I have seen the name Charge somewhere today on one of the censuses.

Computers are too fast for my brain nowadays, except when it comes to printing, where I am still way ahead of them.

Thanks Trish, this has all been very helpful. I will see if anyone has this family in their trees and see what pops up.

Yes that is her, I'm just looking at that 1841 census again.

Well things have moved on since I last looked at this family. Trish, you are right to advise looking at the marriage, on Ancestry I have found her (spelt Sarah Mirian) marrying John Nightingale in Enfield. She is said to be a minor, which still fits with all the censuses, but her father is given as William Prior, a labourer.

The William I have on my tree is down in all the censuses (with wife Susan) as a carpenter, so it looks like I was wrong with her mother's name as well.

Shame the marriage doesn't give the mother's name, which would be helpful.

Now all I have to do is find her real baptism.

Trish, your last post has come in while I was typing. I did spot that census this morning, it looks right, but I will have to double check all this.

Hello Herts listers,
I have just been reviewing my tree on Ancestry and I am very confused over the Prior branch. The last one I have any definite data on is Sarah Miriam Prior. She is in the censuses as being born in Hadham.  According to my information she was baptised 11th April 1830 at Water Lane Independent, Bishop's Stortford. I was daft enough not to make a note of the source for that info, I suspect it was the IGI, which I can't find any more, but it could also have been passed to me way back. The baptism date fits exactly with all the censuses. I also have her parents as William Prior and Susan Carpenter.

Someone else's tree has different parents for her, which is why I am now confused. Can anyone help me with the baptism and her parents? Should I be looking for baptisms at Hadham itself?

thanks,
Mark
