Glad to hear you managed to get the record you wanted. If you would like to give me his name, and particulars I might come across him during my travels as I have found some who have emigrated.

I was wondering how you got on with your query. I wrote a letter in 2003 to the Curator at the Museum who was very helpfull.
I enclosed 2 reply Coupons and addressed envelope. I have my g/grandfathers record. There
was no charge for it even though I asked. About the same time I wrote to Devon Police regarding
my other g/grandfather. They also were very good and asked me if I wanted another persons record with the same Surname which turned out to be his cousin. This was a payable site and worth it for their time and effort.     Regards Marja

I am trying to find my grandmothers sister Ada Keturah Brown(1872) (m) William Matthews (1871)
Cardiff. Sth Wales Apr1892.  siblings :-Laura 1892. William Charles.b. 11 May 1895. Elsie Grace1897.Henry Thomas1898. all baptised.Cardiff except Hilda .b.1901.
I have found a shipping ref for Mrs Matthews & above children leaving for Sth Afr on the 6 Jun 1903 for the Cape. William having gone ahead I guess!.
William C Matthews 55ys Clerk & wife Annie K Matthews 49yrs arriving UK. 9 Jun 1950 on the
"Edinburgh Castle" and returning to Sth Afr 12 Oct 1950 on the same ship. Once again in Uk on his own(m) retired 28 Apr1958. d.o.b 11 May 1895 as above, on the "Bloemfontein Castle"returning to Sth Afr 31 Aug 1958.
On the same ship to UK is a Catherine Matthews (m) b.7 May 1898 & Henry Matthews b 26 Nov 1902. I think it is their ticket No's that are listed run in consecutive order for2nd class.
I have also found a MissLaura Matthews b.1892 in UK. 21 Apr 1920.Chemist assistant. I am not sure if she is the above Laura but very close.
I do not know where they might have settled in Sth Afr as some shipping manifest list all ports of call and not sure where they would have boarded the ship.   There might be more children born in Sth Afr as Ada was 30yrs old then.   Any help however small would be much appreciated.  Regards, Marja

Hi Heddwych,

Had a look at the IOW site. Very interesting I enjoyed looking at it.   I tried Google to find Mews Beers, but no luck! and there was the history of the brewers  of Mews Beer on the site.

      Thanks for your help,   Marja

Hi Heddwch,

Yes only the docks at present. Though Ada Evans worked at the Sandringham Hotel at one time in the 1920's also my dad's sister. Am also looking for a pub in Newport. Isle of Wight called the Trooper Inn, it was pulled down about 1970's to make way for a shopping centre.
