Thank you both very much indeed, your suggestions were spot on. I received a reply from Scotlands People today confirming that the maiden surname was Fairley and the address was Knox's Close. Aren't Scotlands People great! They are so helpful, so much better than trying to access records in England.

Thank you AnnieB

Fairley was one of my possibilities and you may well be right. I thought the 4th letter might be an 's' but now I look closer again it doesn't look like the 's' in deceased.

Thank you Monica,

I will contact Scotland's People right away. I think an enhanced image would solve the problem.

Midlothian / 1890 death record help please
« on: Friday 11 June 10 18:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi, If anyone is going to the records office and has a few minutes spare I am wondering if you could take a look at a death record for me and hopefully decipher what it says.
I am looking at Marion Mathieson Marshall died 4 Sept 1890 (statutory Deaths 670/00 0034)
The bits I can't read are the address where she died, it is 'something' Close, Queensferry. Also the Maiden Surname of her mother.

Many thanks

Thank you for that info Buzancy18, and there I was thinking there was no more to be found. I am sending a pm as requested.

Thanks ADP

It now seems possible that he enlisted elsewhere and it is likely therefore that he would be listed in the area where he enlisted and said he was born.

Many thanks for looking

Hi Evie

Thank you so much for that link. Henry may not be mentioned but it gives me information on the church where some of my ancestors were married which is great.
