A specific German based forum might be a good bet. This is an active one https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/

The main purpose of that post was to unlock the message-sending ability by making at least two posts. However, if it should be elsewhere, I'm fine with it being moved. Where should such a post go?

"Europe Resources and Offers" which is at the top of the Europe section.

It would help a lot if you included the country you are asking about in the title.
Eastern Europe covers a wide area!

You haven’t specifically mentioned Passenger Lists. Have you searched those?
I see someone of this name on Ancestry in their Florida Naturalisation section, but I don’t have a sub.
All Germany vital records are held at local level so you need to know the place to be able to proceed.

Welcome to Rootschat, we hope you enjoy it here.
If you can provide the key info that davecapps asks for then that helps put your enquiry into context.

Does your local public library have free access to Ancestry?

"does it need to be so expensive"

well, yes, it does!
Archiving old documents is not cheap...and someone has to pay!

Like you baytree, I’ve not read the website, but often it’s cheaper to request and pay for a photocopy/scan than to visit (and pay for a copy!).
