Can anyone help me with the firm called Wyatt & Jackson, Drapers of 143 High Street, Oxford, please? My great grand father's sister Jessie Elworthy married Frederic/Frederick Wyatt and they lived over their shop at 143 High Street.  I would appreciate any information about Frederic, Jessie and their shop.
Babs.

Dear Audrey,
Thank you very much for your help with the mystery of Hiram James Chambers.
Years ago a friend found on a card index for Nothingham Quarter Sessions Removal Orders, although it should have been in the index for Maintenance Orders, (at Notts County Record Office),
"Mary Ann Chambers singlewoman, 2 February 1830 born in St Peter a male child named Hiram James;
30 March 1830 Maintenance Order, Father Thomas Duck, Radford, lacemaker CA 3265/346-7".
I should point out that this information was given to me in a letter in 1992. Now I know what happened to Hiram.
Again thank you.

My ancestor was Thomas Duck, born 1810, baptised 8 April 1810 at St. Peters Church, Radford, Nottingham. He fathered a son, Hiram James Duck, to Mary Ann Chambers. They never married. Thomas married Elizabeth Litchfield, 11 June 1832 at Radford and eventually came to Australia.
I have often wondered what happened to Hiram. Has anyone any ideas please?

Dear "emartin",
Can you please tell me where your Donald and Mary Martin lived in Australia? My husband's great, great grandfather Donald Martin lived and died in Rylstone, New South Wales. It appears there was more than one Donald and Mary Martin who immigrated to Australia, so yours and mine may not be the same one. I will be happy to share information if they are from the same family.

Hello Monica,
Years ago I got a copy of Donald and Mary' marriage record. It states Names of Parties "Donald Martin, Residence East Side, When Proclaimed 9 April 1854, When Married 26 April 1854, ministers Name Rev. Angus Martin. Mary Matheson's residence was given as Glenhinnisdal. I have a good map of the Island, so I can see where Mary came from and perhaps find her on the 1851 census, but Donald's residence "East Side" has got me!
On Donald's death certificate his father is listed as Alexander Martin and his mother Margaret but no maiden name.
Trying to find him on the 1851 census is proving to be difficult.
Any help please would be appreciated. That is why I thought Lord MacDonald's Estate records might help.

Donald and Mary Martin(nee Matherion) were listed as coming from Lord MacDonald' Estate on their emigration record to Portland Bay, Melbourne, Victoria, on the ship called "Arabian", departing from Liverpool 3 June 1854 and arriving 19 September 1854. Donald was aged 34, birth year 1820, his residence Valtos, estate Lord MacDonald, parish Kilmuir, Inverness.
Mary Martin was aged 25, birth years 1829 at the same residence.
Could anyone help me with the locality of this estate, residence etc.? I would appreciate any information about the Isle of Sky.
Thanks

Derbyshire / Obadiah Berrisford
« on: Tuesday 02 November 10 20:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am looking for Obadiah Berrisford, Berresford, Beresford, who originally came from Ashover, Derbyshire. He married Barbara Shepherd, the sister of my great grandmother 4th May 1855 at Wesleyan Church at Goulburn, New South Wales Australia. He was sent as an exiled convict to the colony 20th August 1849 on the "Randolph".
According to IGI he was baptised 19 March 1815 at Ashover; his parents John Berrisford and Roseanna Else. This baptism was submitted by a member of the church so I am not sure if it is correct. Also I am looking for any siblings of Obadiah if possible.
Thanks Barbara. :)
