Cornwall / Location of GUNNON, near Altarnun
« on: Saturday 29 March 14 11:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to locate anything, map and or information on the village of GUNNON.

As good as GOOGLE can be all I can find is that it is/was near ALTARNUN.
Helping out a work colleague and have just received a birth certificate for: Thomas CARTER, born 2 July 1841 @ GUNNON in the sub-district of ALTARNUN.

Hope that someone out there can provide something on this elusive location.

Regards

Canada / Re: Passenger List UK-Canada 1881-91 HALLORAN/HALLOREN

Is this her death, perhaps reverting to Irish spelling... Frances Hongers O'Halloran Burial: 18 Jun 1901 Saint Patrick, Ottawa, Carleton, Ont.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F2P1-597
( ancestry has death down as Frances Ohalloran)
Can't locate the entry here, though, under any of the various spellings, perhaps the grave marker did not last the century...  http://www.canadianheadstones.com/on/cemetery.php?cemID=649&pg=10
Hi JJ, thanks for that.  The middle name doesn't seem to fit.  Not to say it is or isn't her though.  Could have taken the O'Halloran name after moving to Canada.  I have very little to go on and not at all sure how to find things in Canada... but trying

Thanks Jacquie
My first endeavours at hunting in Canada and trying to find my way around.

I now have the 1891 & 1901`
Will see what I can dig up with the 1911.

I believe Francis died in 1901.

Thanks... Glenn

Is someone able to check UK-Canada passenger lists please for the following -

HALLORAN/HALLOREN, John (b. abt 1832) Frances (abt 1840) & son John (abt 1880) from Lancashire.

Most likely period would be between 1881-1891 and possibly then settled in Ottawa, Ontario CANADA.

Lancashire / KIRKDALE COUNTY GAOL / PRISON - Staff records
« on: Sunday 04 August 13 11:16 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know if or where any Kirkdale County Gaol records or reports might exist relative to staff?  I am particularly interested in the period 1847 - 1855

My great great grandfather John ANGUS was appointed as the Head Warder at Kirkdale Gaol from  May 1844 (Previously Police Inspector Liverpool Constabulary)
Parliamentary Papers, GB Parliament,
House of Commons, by HMSO, 1845 Page 61
Prisons of Great Britain - Returns of Officers

In 1844 he is recorded at: Bootle Lane KIRKDALE and 1848 Liverpool Directory only as KIRKDALE.  There are a few articles in the Liverpool Mercury re both Police & Gaol events.

John disappeared or was possibly murdered sometime from the very late 1840's.
I haven't yet found him in the 1851 census but his wife Eliza & 4 children are now at Kensington Rd WEST DERBY.

Any guidance and suggestions appreciated (especially if they are accessible from Australia eg links, email contacts etc)

Regards
Glenn ANGUS

I think 1851 census - Mary Ann aged 38 is a little fib
www.lan-opc.org.uk/Seach/indexp.html
marriage details april 1831
both Robert and Mary Ann of full age -(aged 21 or over  ) so both born 1810 or earlier
Robert age 40 in 1851  is spot on - I think Mary Ann would be 40 also -typical woman , took a couple of years off ...lol

I think you have stirred up Karenlee a bit :-)
Noticed your ref. to Liverpool.. HARTLEY... is that one of the names in your tree by chance?
