Devon Lookup Requests / Harberton Parish Registers - FARLEY
« on: Wednesday 27 January 10 16:58 GMT (UK)  »
I have a John FARLEY b1789 in Wylye, Wiltshire who married a Charlotte ????? between 1810 and 1815.

I note an IGI marriage of a John FARLEY and a Charlotte DAVIS on 29 Dec 1815 at Harberton, Devon and wonder if this could be the happy couple. They are next found in 1816 in Andover, Hampshire where their eldest dau was born.
I'd appreciate anyone with Harberton Parish Registers data to lookup that marriage and see if there are any clues there which might substantiate that marriage as the one I am seeking - eg a mention of John Farley 'of Wiltshire' etc would be a help. Charlotte may be 'of that parish'?
A good way from Wiltshire to Devon I know, but it was not unusual for a lot of my ancestors to marry a very long way from their domiciles.
(I have searched the Hampshire Phillimore marriages and many of the parish registers till I am cross-eyed?)

Fingers-crossed! :-*

Doctor Doomuch, could you post the info you already have on this? eg. IGI references.

I'm sure somebody out there could at least hazard a guess as to why there might be possible discrepancies in the surname

Jillie
Many thanks Jillie42, I have posted an amendment to my initial post with the added information as suggested.

Re: my previous post:-
My error - the marriage of William Ephraim Snow and Priscilla was reported in The Times (NOT on the IGI) in May 1819 describing William as a surgeon of Mile End, London, and Priscilla as the youngest daughter of Charles Derrick of Islington. This suggests that Priscilla's maiden name was Priscilla Derrick.
The birth of Priscilla Derrick Elliot Snow on 20 Mar 1820 is shown in the IGI Batch C097881 Call 0596969 with her (non-conformist) christening on the same record. She was christened a 2nd time on 22 Apr 1863 (in Anglican church), shown in the IGI Batch C055764 Call 0596916-7.
In BOTH cases of Priscilla's IGI records, her parents are shown as William Ephraim Snow and Priscilla Mary Waller.
Any help or suggestions regarding this apparent anomaly will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Celia, Thankyou for your reply. Regretfully I have to rely on what I can find on the net, genealogy sites, family trees, and from others researching the same people as me. I wish I could get out to Parish Churches and Burial sites, Record Offices etc, but that is not possible. Eventually, the info I seek will turn up - it's out there somewhere! Regards John.

Hi Suey,
I think it depended on what part of the GR site you were accessing. In my case it was Messages, I don't know where other people were on the site when the problem occurred.
It made me jump I can tell you when the screen went red and then was interrupted by my antivirus suggesting I terminate immediately.
It's not paranoia to be concerned about the security of your info on your computer - if you continue to be aware of the risks and threats of infection, you are more likely to surf safely. My message is "stay sharp".

Hi LittleMeg,

I agree, but AT LEAST GR did reply! Perhaps now they will be more careful about the integrity of their site, and stop of lot of those annoying ads which seem to pervade most sites nowadays (I don't mean the pop-up ads, but rather those that are embedded in the site).

Looking for help on Priscilla Mary Waller b.abt 1798, England.

IGI shows Priscilla Mary Waller m. William Ephraim Snow on 11 May 1819 at Islington, London.
IGI also shows they had a dau. Priscilla Derrick Elliot Snow b.20 Mar 1820 London, England.

The name Elliot runs through much of the Snow family as a christian name (both male and female). William Snow b.abt 1795 came from Devon, a county also with many Elliot famlies.  The 'Derrick' in the dau. Priscilla's name suggests a connection with a Derrick family. There is a Charles Derrick who married a Priscilla Benge in 1785, and had a dau. Priscilla Derrick (all within the contemporary time-frame).

I would like to find if there is a link between Priscilla Mary Waller (above) and this Priscilla Derrick - or are they the same person - and would be grateful for any help. Thanks.

Having experienced this Trojan problem (1 Feb 2008), I contacted GR Support and notified them of the problem:
(Extract) "... For your assistance, my Antivirus reported the following:
Trojan Downloader.Gida.A trojan; FILE: GenesReunited.co.uk/image/trees/female_bg_on.jpg. ..."

On 4 Feb 2008 GR Support replied:
"Thanks you for your email. Please accept my apologies if this virus alert has caused you any worry.
There was an advert on the site which was inviting people to download an application. At that point your anti-virus software picked this up and warned you of the various types of viruses that could be contained.
This advert has now been removed from the site. "

My antivirus is NOD32 from Eset. The delay in GR's reply was due to the weekend when Support apparently is not working! Since then, I have accessed the site without further problem.
Do I believe GR's explanation? Not entirely!
Hope this helps those who had a similar problem.
