Hi Again,

Has anyone ever heard of Towoder, Shropshire, England.  That is the birth place  listed on 1851 census: George Edward Griffiths - Army Pensioner - Croydon, Surrey?

Hi,

I have a friend visiting Shropshire in a couple of weeks who's family lives very near Gobowen/Daywell.  He said he'd look up Parish records for me (see below for copy of the Parish record from Ancestry.  Does anyone know the location of this record?

Shropshire: Whittington, Halston - Parish Registers, St. Asaph Diocese
 Baptisms 1785.
  Baptisms 1785.
   Volume 8.
County: Shropshire
Country: England
23 Aug 1805 01 Sep 1805 George, s. of Edward & Ann Griffiths, of Daywell.

I'm hoping this record could give me Ann Griffiths maiden name.

Many thanks as always

Wendy

Thanks Gadget.  I believe there may be a FH Centre here in town.  I did order a CD produced by Ancestry but it didn't include a lot of detail.

Thanks again...

Hi

Does anyone know how I can order a copy of a Parish Record to see more info?

Thanks again.  It can sure get complicated.  So there is a chance that the family children were born Whittington and married Saint Martins.  The searching pre 1837 is a bit new to me.  I guess I'll check the siblings.  If the other children I found were married Saint Martin, there's a good chance I'm on the right trail.

Hi,

I found Anne Roberts/Edward Griffiths.  Not living in UK, I'm not sure of the demographics of some of the places.  Is Saint Martin Parish in the Whittington area?  Is it a town?  It's doesn't seem to be  common area listed in FamilySearch.org as a birth place.

I did find two Anne Roberts born in Whittington -- one 1772 and the other 1774.  Interesting is one of them had a father William/mother Mary which are both dominant names in my tree.  The other had a father Richard which I don't have any.

Do the original records give more information?

Thanks for the 'Roberts' possibility.   It sure would be nice to get past this hurdle.  I'll keep you posted.
