Hello Colin,

Sorry, I'm afraid the confusion was my fault, I should have mentioned that although the census shows Elizabeth's birthplace as Suffolk or  Hampshire, family conversation in the past has been convinced that her family was from near Nottingham and because of the marriage location I thought it was worth a try. I shall follow up the Hampshire/Suffolk line you mention and also the John in Bingham mentioned by Trish.

Many thanks for your help, David.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies, my problem seems to be that around the time that I'm looking at there are two or three John Winn's producing children in roughly the same area, the one I think may be right is John married to Mary but I've not been able to prove it.

In the 1881 census William Winn is living in Brighton, Sussex shown as widower age 63 b1818 Bottesford Leicestershire it appears that Elizabeth died between 71/81.

The 1871 census shows in Brighton, William age 54 b1817 Leicestershire. Elizabeth age 61 b1810 Suffolk.

The 1861 census shows in Brighton, William age 44 b1817 Leicestershire. Elizabeth age 51 b1810 Hampshire.

The 1851 census shows in Brighton, William age 34 b1817 Bottesford Leicestershire. Elizabeth age 38 b1813 Woodbridge Suffolk.

To this point all proven, apart from the mistaken reference to Hampshire. Because several of their children were born in Heckington, I'm assuming the following.

The 1841 census shows in Heckington Lincolnshire, William age 25 b1816. Elizabeth age 25 b1816 with daughter Emma age 1 b1840 d1844.

Elizabeth seems to have taken the unusual step of adding a few years to her age as she has gone through life. :)

Hello,

I have a marriage between William Winn and Elizabeth Horsepool which took place in Bingham, Nottinghamshire in 1838. The certificate shows Elizabeth's father as John Horsepool. I believe Elizabeth may have had several brothers and sisters but at present have not been able to prove this, any help would be much appreciated.

Regards David.

Hello,

Mary Buckley married William Johnson in March 1775, I believe in Denton Parish, Sussex. I have been unable to find any children that William & Mary may have had or anything about Mary's family who I believe were from Denton. Any help would be much appreciated.

David.

Hello Tryin,

Many thanks for your input, it is very helpful, I know that one of the boys had the given name Frank, I wonder if you can remember the other boys name and perhaps what job Frank senior was doing in the 1940s.

Hello,

Many thanks to you all for your replies, the website looks good especially some of the photos, I shall spend some time on there. The address that I had was Ross barracks, Shorncliffe camp but I tried without success all combinations that I could think of, even other establishments failed to find it, I shall have a try with your suggestion Casalguidi, fingers crossed. thanks again.

David.

Hi

Very many thanks Mo, it has worked a treat. I wonder if you might also have a solution to not being able to access Ross Barracks in Cheriton in the 1911 census, I've tried many ways but get everywhere in Cheriton except the barracks. Thanks.

David.

Kent / unable to find address on census
« on: Sunday 09 December 12 20:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Using Findmypast I have found the family that I'm looking for in East Cliff, Dover in the 1901 census, together with all the rest of the properties in that road, yet in the 1911 census I cannot find the same road at all. I know that the same properties were and in fact still are there and the road today is still known as East cliff. Any ideas as to why I'm not able to find it on the 1911 census.

It is by the way, for anyone who knows Dover, the road that runs alongside and just behind Marine Parade under the cliffs.

David.
