Lanarkshire / Re: Poor House Burials
« on: Sunday 10 February 08 07:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I get the impression it could have been anywhere they had space at the time, but my gggg gran's death certifcate has govan poor house as place of death it was also recorded that she was buried in the eastern necropolis, Glasgow also an umarked shared grave. Do you know what year your relative died? you might find a clue in the dates of first and last burials in the cemetries around govan.

good luck
Jenny

we were just googling to see if we could make sense of the name but from my record todate i probably have it all wrong we found dalbeth now St. Peters but it seems the old parts are no access and very overgrown. It would be nice to see who else was buried with her later.

off on a tangent scouring IGI whenever I look for Nancy I get Annie is there a pet name thing here i'm unfamilar with like Catherine and Katie?

lol 1 credit it takes me at least 5 to see why my results aren't giving me what I want.

You two certainly have a talent for this if it's not a profession for you it should be.

:)

found maghera thankyou I've decided to give it a rest a while. Researching Scotland I found easy In areas and place names I understood with scotlandspeople holding nearly every record I needed. Irelands records are just too fragmented for the dates I need It's taken me all day just to find out if maghera and magherafelt still exist let alone the townlands within them.

I'll leave Arthur Hugh Peter Catherine and James to somebody with more time and resources.

thanks to all of you I know for certain that our roots are from Derry and probably from Maghera and Magherafelt and without the help of people on this site i'd still be wondering how to start.

best of luck with all your searches

Jenny
