I am embarrassed to say that I never saw your post of 28 Jan 2008 regarding the Brands of Tinwald, to whom I may be related.  Should you visit the kirkyard at some future date, I would be most interested in information regarding Robert Brand (b. 1664; d. 1717), James Brand (b. ca. 1665; d. ?) and William Brand, possibly a son of either of these.  William, no birth date, may be the father of my Robert Brand, b. 1725.  Other possible related siblings or cousins could be James, b. 18 Jan 1716; Jane, b. 8 Oct. 1717; Mary, b. 20 Sep 1719; Thomas, b. 24 May 1722; John, b. 11 Jul 1725 (twin to my Robert??); or Elizabeth, B. 25 Jul 1730.  I still have been unsuccessful in linking from my Ecclefechan Brands to those in Tinwald, and thus to possible related Brands in Dumfries.

Thank you for whatever assistance you might provide.

I am seeking information that might link William BRAND of Tinwald (no birth date, but possibly 1680-ish) or other BRAND of Tinwald with my Robert BRAND of Ecclefechan, b. 1725.  Tinwald MIs and OPR results show several possible siblings or cousins links to Robert: James, b. 1716; Jane, b. 1717; Mary, b. 1719; Thomas, b. 1722; Robert and John (twins??), b. 1725; and Elizabeth, b. 1730.

I realize this is a bit unothodox, but the given names above closely match those that Robert bestowed on his own offspring.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  By the way, this is the Robert Brand -- "my father's maternal uncle" -- mentioned repeatedly by Thomas Carlyle in his writings.
