The Essex Record Office does operate a Search Service if you are unable to get there - if you email them at ero.enquiry@essex.gov.uk they will send you a form to fill in about what you want them to search.

With the Chelmsford City Wharf Road car park out of use at present the nearest car park to the Essex Record Office is the Baddow Road one where it is also £4.50 for the day. From there you just need to walk across the bridge to the ERO.
The opening hours changed last April and are on their website www.essexrecordoffice.co.uk.

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Essex WW1 Autumn Lecture
« on: Thursday 13 August 15 16:25 BST (UK)  »
Did your ancestors live in Essex during the Great War? Do you wonder what life was like in Essex during the conflict? Were your ancestors hospitalised in Southend during the war? Did your great grandma work as a VAD?
If you would like to find out about any of these topics you may like to come and listen to an afternoon of speakers organised by the Friends of Historic Essex at Chelmsford Museum on Saturday 19th September 2015. See below for more details.

Hi Sue,
Have you had any luck with finding the records you were after as I now have a similar question about a man serving in Nazeing in Essex.
Hope you can help me.

Essex / Re: Ardleigh Parish Records.
« on: Sunday 01 February 15 19:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
The Essex Record Office catalogue (SEAX) shows that they hold a will for a Henry Garnham from Thorpe-le-Soken dated 1780 reference D/APsW 1/88; I don't know whether this is your chap or maybe a relative. If you want to have a copy of this will you could either subscribe to Essex Ancestors (www.essexancestors.co.uk) which would only be £5 for a day (and you would get to see the parish registers images as well) or you could contact the ERO about getting them to email you a copy - try emailing them at ero.searchroom@essex.gov.uk.

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: 1929 Electoral Rolls Shoeburyness
« on: Saturday 31 January 15 15:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

You will find the electoral register for Shoeburyness for 1929 on the Essex Record Office's website http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk; the reference for the register (which you put in the box in the top right hand corner) is C/E 2/9/12 (there is a space between the E and the 2) and you can view the images of all the pages in the register free of charge. This register contains lots of different areas but the drop down to the images lists where each area starts. All the electoral registers that the ERO holds for 1918 and 1929 are currently available to view on their site free of charge.

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Essex Record Office Open Day 14th Sep
« on: Wednesday 04 September 13 18:57 BST (UK)  »
I see that the ERO is holding an Open Day coming up on Saturday 14th September; it's also their 75th anniversary so as well as behind the scenes tours and films and a talk there will be a cake. And it's all FREE. Sounds worth a visit.
