Technical Help / Re: FTM 2019 not backing up to Ancestry
« on: Tuesday 30 December 25 16:53 GMT (UK)  »
I believe that's the current version of 2019.

Do you have Two-step verification enabled on your Ancestry account (its under Account settings)?  I can't remember for certain but I believe that can stop FTM syncing with Ancestry and you have to disable it when you want to perform a sync.

I may be getting confused with other software though. :)

The Common Room / Re: Does anyone know of any current Ancestry special offers?
« on: Tuesday 23 December 25 23:34 GMT (UK)  »
Having cancelled auto renewal a few weeks back, my subscription expired earlier this evening and have just renewed again for £89.99, 7th out of the last 8 years.  The 8th was the same price but the links weren't working at the time for some reason and managed to get Ancestry to agree to half price anyway. ;D

Thanks Sandra.

One Name Studies: N to S / Re: Seabrook
« on: Saturday 20 December 25 15:03 GMT (UK)  »
There is a hamlet called Seabrook near Ivinghoe in Buckinghamshire.  That is more than likely where the surname originates and was adopted by families in the distant past when surnames became required (many people did adopt the name of the place they resided at that time).  Tring isn't far from that area.

The surnamedb.com that you mention says as much - https://surnamedb.com/Surname/seabrook - however as I am researching the surname from Ivinghoe and Pitstone I was already aware of the connection.

The Common Room / Re: Government Find a Will Service

I am surprised (and dismayed) that nowhere on the website, prior to the screen where you input your card details and actually pay,  is there a mention of the new price.

I feel that at the very least they should have something on screen way before you actually put your card details in and pay.

Boo

Looks like they've had a lot of complaints about that since today there is a banner across the site with the new price. ;D

The Common Room / Re: Government Find a Will Service

I ordered some Wills about a week before the price increase.  A couple were immediately available, presumably because someone had ordered them previously, and I've been waiting for the rest.  Today I received an email telling me that another one has been fulfilled.  It would be good if their site wasn't still down for maintenance.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will be back before the 30 day limit expires.

Jane :-)

Unless this update has changed how it works, the 30 days doesn't start until the first time you download the file.  I ordered some in June but didn't get round to accessing them until 2 weeks ago just after the price increase announcement.  The date they are available to was 30 days after I first downloaded them.  I've done it a few times before because I rarely get an email advising that they are available, and there have been some delays over recent months too.  I hope that they haven't changed this because I've got quite a few on order which I wouldn't purchase for the new price but am happy to get at the old. ;D  I suspect I may be waiting a while for them.

Suffolk / Re: Little Bealings Baptism registers 1813-1924 On-Line with Ancestry
« on: Friday 15 August 25 15:35 BST (UK)  »
It may be better to report this to Suffolk Archives rather than Ancestry, something may get done about it.  I've raised issues in the past with Ancestry about missing images and they've never been fixed.

Suffolk / Re: Butley Parish Registers

According to the Suffolk Archivist at the FHS AGM presentation last year, all the images etc were being triple checked to ensure accuracy.  Well something has gone amiss with Butley. :o

Suffolk / Re: Butley Parish Registers

It would appear that the register that Ancestry have as Butley is actually Wissett, confirmed by a test search of an entry in the Ancestry image with the Suffolk FHS entries on FindMyPast. ::)  A page at the beginning of the register is difficult to read but does appear to say Wissett.

It would probably be worth flagging this to Suffolk Archive's attention rather than Ancestry, they hopefully will be able to get it fixed assuming the Butley register has been digitised.

The same images with what appears to be the same index are also correctly listed as Wissett.

Suffolk / Re: Suffolk parish registers to go online?
« on: Thursday 07 August 25 23:53 BST (UK)  »
I was just going to post that Cambridgeshire Archives didn't post until after 3pm on their Facebook page when their registers went live on 17 July, so may be similar time.

But Lewis21 is correct, they're visible through the Card Catalog, they weren't earlier cos I had a look :-)

Drats going to have to try and finish work earlier tomorrow ...
