Wilton Grove was a small cul-de-sac off Rathbone Rd with no connection through to Alexandra Rd at that time.

Warwickshire / Re: Birth Certificate, where is Church Rd registered as Deritend

No longer so perplexed, had a thought to check the telephone directory. I found it under Nursing Homes.

Homeleigh, 9 Church Rd, Birmingham 15 EDGbaston 2991

Why on earth was it registered as Deritend?

Warwickshire / Birth Certificate, where is Church Rd registered as Deritend

I have a birth certificate registered in 1954 as Birmingham/Deritend. The place of birth is recorded 9 Church Rd UD, father is the the informant and is living in Lozells Rd, Birmingham 19. I was told the location was in Edgbaston, but that does not tally with the registration district.

I think the address may have been some sort of nursing home, it's a little perplexing and idea which Church Rd it might be?

Lancashire / Wigan 1861 Census Ancestry v Findmypast
« on: Friday 17 February 12 13:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Wigan has quite a few problems with the Ancestry Index in 1861, some transcripts do not link to the correct index. I have reported this so it may get fixed sometime.

Another problem I noticed is that it may be missing a district eg HATTON, James 1829, born warrington RG09/2777/59/14. He is not indexed in Ancestry, but is in Findmypast and I can't find the image in Ancestry either. Ancestry has districts 33 and district 35, suggesting district 34 is missing.

I'm sure there is a list of folios against district somewhere on line, can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me where 34 ends and the folios for district 34. 35 seems to start around 2777/78, but I can't tell the page number from ancestry.

Thanks,
Deryck

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: All Saints Banns, Wigan, Leigh Archives Lookup

Thanks for the effort, but I really need to look at the banns for the Mary Fairhurst marriage. I have applied for their first child's birth certificate who was illegimate which I hope may show an address. Knowing my luck it will just say Pemberton. I have had a look for Samuel Downs, but can't see him, hence the interest in the Downs/Fairhurst marriage.

I have been unable to find a marriage for a couple, Mary Fairhurst and Samuel Hurst. There is however an entry that fits very well in lan-opc apart from the groom's surname, and it is also indexed this way in the GRO index and Lancashire bmd.

All Saints, Wigan, 25 Aug 1850
Samuel Downs (X), 24 Bachelor, Labourer, Pemberton
Mary Fairhurst (X), 20 Spinster, Pemberton
    Groom's Father: John Downs, Labourer
    Brides's Father: None

Ages of Samuel, Mary and John are correct as are occupations, I also believe Mary was illegimate. The only thing wrong is the groom's surname.

I can get to Wigan fairly easily after work and checked the original, what they didn't tell me when I booked was that they don't keep the banns.

I can't see the Banns at the Lancashire Records Office so I think Leigh may be the place to see them. Leigh is much more difficult to get to and has limited opening hours. If anyone is going to Leigh Archives and can have look I would be grateful if you could check the banns to see if they correspond to the marriage.

Thanks,
Deryck

1871: Class: RG10; Piece: 3886; Folio: 85; Page: 21

There is an Ann Forster with son William (1849) + Charles very near to Henry Scott who would be a good candidate for Jane's father.

Lancashire BMD  has Charles Foster 1856 mother's name Bentley

Jane seems to be in Ormskirk on her own.

I think Elizabeth in 1871 is at

Elizabeth Artlett 1858
Class: RG10; Piece: 1007; Folio: 43; Page: 23

1861

Betsey Harttett 1858
Class: RG9; Piece: 548; Folio: 122; Page: 11

Henry Neild and Bessie Artlett married sep 1877 Dover

As Preston births in Lancashire BMD have mothers name, Neild with mother Artlett

1882   NIELD   Ambrose Henry
1884   NEILD   Alice Hannah Mary
1885   NEILD   Daniel Guy Arnold d 1899 preston
1887   NEILD   James Rankin d 1899 preston
1889   NEILD   Annie Isabella
