It might be worth exploring.  The fact that he gives two different locations for his birth, I find is problematic. Although Sowerby Bridge and Halifax are not too distant, it does complicate matters.  I've found that usually when a small town is used for the birth location it is usually the right one.  An enumerator from a distant location may have asked "Sowerby Bridge, where's that" to which he was told "near Halifax".  Knowing where Halifax was the enumerator used that instead.

I've searched through the Sowerby Bridge registers available on Ancestry, but couldn't find him.  The fact that I can't locate a marriage certificate is the most bothersome as it would confirm my theory on Caroline's lineage along with William Henry's.  The fact that both individuals were far from home might indicated that the names might have been completely hashed up, and they're under something completely different.

Caroline can be found on Class: RG9; Piece: 858; Folio: 6; Page: 5. as a cook to Joseph Sheldon Wilkinson in Great Marlow, Bucks.  On Ancestry, she is mistranscribed as Caroline Pickett.

I'm hoping someone maybe able to assist with this one.  All of my family that I've been able to trace are from the south, Surrey/Sussex/Hampshire areas.
My great grandmother is the exception.  This is a very complicated family so I hope you can follow along as it involves first cousins marrying.
Sarah Ada Peskett Jones was born Jan 19 1872 at 51 Grange St. New Wortley, Yorkshire. I have her birth certificate which lists her parents as William Henry Jones and Caroline Jones formerly Peskett.  Her baptism is available on Ancestry.

I have yet to find a marriage for William Henry and Caroline. They do appear on the 1881 census in Hammersmith, London. Wm. H. Jones is listed as 48, a joiner & carpenter from Sowerby Bridge Yorkshire. Caroline is listed as 47 from Odiham, Hampshire.  I believe Caroline to be the sister of my 2nd great grandfather William Richard Peskett.  So Caroline's daughter and William Richard's son married. Anyways that's not the purpose of this post.

I'm trying to find more about William Henry Jones.  In 1871 there is a listing that I believe to be the correct family. William H. Jones age 37, joiner, born Halifax and wife Elizabeth age 37 from Odiham, Hants are listed on Main Street in Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria. With them is a niece, Mary E. Peskett age 9 from Crondall Hampshire. (Mary was the niece of Caroline Peskett, not sure where the enumerator came up with the name Elizabeth for William Henry's wife)

Anyways, that's all I have on William Henry Jones, two census returns and a listing on a birth certificate.  I believe he died prior to 1891, but have yet to find his death due to the commonness of the name.  I would like to be able to trace his line back further, as it's been a brickwall for many, many years.  I've had no success in definitively tracing him in censuses prior to 1871 or finding a baptism for him.  I had hoped that with the release of West Yorkshire parish records I'd be able to find him, but with no luck.  The fact his birth is listed differently on two censuses doesn't help matters as I'm not familiar with the area, other than looking at a map.

I'm hoping someone familiar with the area and records available might be able to help.  The Peskett line is all traced forward and backwards from this time period, but the Jones line stops dead at William Henry. I would like to find him on the censuses, his baptism and ultimately his marriage (which I've exhausted every available avenue I could find)

Many thanks for you help.

The Common Room / Re: Any PESKETT info.
« on: Thursday 10 July 08 02:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi Ian,
Thanks for the response and the information.  I believe that George and Sarah had additional children the those you provide, although some are not confirmed.  Most of these have the Tobit middle name.
Here's those I have.
Elizabeth 1862
Emily 1864
George 1868
Robert 1870
Arthur Ernest 1872
William 1873
Agatha Beatrice 1876
Horace 1877
Gertrude Dorothy 1880
Edith Jane 1881
Frank 1883

Both Horace and Frank were killed during WW1 Horace in Belgium and Frank in Ypres, France

From 1873 onwards it appears the family settled down in Leiston, Suffolk as William and the children afterwards were all born there.  The earlier children must have been born close to where George was stationed at the time: Ireland, London, Berkshire.
Based on census information when the family was in England George was born abt 1836 in Hurst(pierpoint?), Sussex although I have yet to connect him with parents.

Sussex Lookup Requests / Samson Dendy Itchingfield
« on: Monday 14 January 08 23:04 GMT (UK)  »
Wondering if someone with access to Itchingfield records could look up the birth of Samson Dendy b. abt 1836 in Itchingfield. From 1841 census I believe his mother may have been Sarah?  Also his marriage in abt 1857 to Louisa Burdfield I believe in Itchingfield.

Thanks,
Gerald

BMD has the following listing:
Births Dec 1862
PESKETT    Frederick George         Petworth    2b   267

I've gone through the Billingshurst baptism and can't find him.  Maybe someone can check Petworth?
Near as I can figure his grandparents Frederick and Jane had 3 boys Darcy, George & William so it should be one of these three as the father, unless one of the daughters had a illegitimate son :o   Darcy's sons were all christened in Brighton and much earlier.  George had two in Billingshurst then 3 in Brighton.  And William had two in Abingdon, Berkshire where he was married, one of them being Frederick W. B. :-\.  I am shying towards George as the father but need something definite other than getting the birth cert.  This is not my directly line but I'm trying to tie all the Pesketts together.
Any help someone may be able to provide would be great. ;D

William Richard Peskett m. Suzanne Catherine Croissant Jul 19 1859 in Odiham, Hants.  Parish records list Suzanne's father as Jean, a watchmaker as you stated.  Suzanne died in 1864 4 years after giving birth to Sarah Ann Catherine Peskett on May 4 1860 in Odiham.

William Richard subsequently married Jane Hawksworth on Jul 17 1864 in Netherbury, Beaminster, Dorset, England.

I have more information on this family as these are my GGreatgrandparents.  I have copies of William's marriage cert to Jane and death certs  of William and Jane.

Hi my line also stems from this Odiham line.  I too have been unable to find who Sarah Ann belongs to.  I've gone through the parish records for Odiham and was unable to find a birth or baptism for her, so must assume she was baptized elsewhere or not at all.  As for Maryann, she was married to William Nash in 1860 in Wyecombe, Bucks.  Here are the census listings I've found for her with the 1881 one with her mother present:
1861 census:
William Nash   Head   M   29   Cordwainer, Journeyman   Alderston, Berks
Maryann Nash   Wife   M   30            Odiham, Hants

1871 census:

Sarah J. Nash   Dau   U   4   Scholar      Gt. Marlow, Bucks

Henry J. Nash   Son      10 m         Gt. Marlow, Bucks
