Thanks Barbara    I think that you are probably right that the two Dorothys are one and the same. Dorothy Pigg was born in the March qtr at Bellingham. I cannot trace a birth for Dorothy Wilkinson.I also cannot find Dorothy Pigg in either 1851 or 1861 census or Mary Ann Pigg in 1851. I cannot find any marriages to a Wilkinson for either Dorothy or Mary Ann. Mary Ann was a grocer in Bellingham and so was John Wilkinson,so possibly Dorothy was their daughter and lived with her grandparents and took their name while living with them.

Northumberland / bellingham Mystery

Dorothy Pigg born to Mary Ann Pigg (unmarried) in 1850.Dorothy married a William Crozier. Unable to find marriage and birth of daughter Dorothy about 1880. Census for 1891 & 1901 give the family living in High Carriteth Bellingham Hexham Borough,& this I know to be correct. 1871  census from Birtley  and 1881 Alnwick give a family of the same names, but on obtaining a marriage certificate discovered the bride to be a Dorothy Wilkinson supposed to be born in about1850 at Bellingam, and the daughter Dorothy was born to Dorothy Wilkinson and William Crozier. Cannot find a birth for a Dorothy Wilkinson.I  have a birth certificate for Walter Crozier and he is the son of Dorothy Pigg and WilliamCrozier. Can anyone solve the mystery

have marriage cert for Thomas Vost & Catherine Scurr on 30 August 1845 both of Blundell St. He appeared to be either a Hairdripen or Handripen. Fathers were James Vost possible Warper & John Scurr possible mariner.I would like to get further back particularly on the Vost side though would also be quite pleased to go back on the Scurr side if it was easily available .

Thanks again.Sorry by both I meant Berwick & Bolbeck Hall .I looked up all that they had,I do not think that I saw any for Coldstream. I agree that oral histories are often inaccurate as I have found in the past, but non of the family have been RC since Alexander though maybe his children were baptised RC as non of his children appear in the records of North Sunderland. The children of his son William were all baptised in that church.Sarah's maiden name Johnston appears on the birth certificates of her children.Alexander's father was William and his grand-father was Alexander.Alexander had several brothers living near Berwick and most of them had sons called William and Alexander. The grave stone at N S names all the children that predeceased them and William of 1843 is not named. You are correct in your information regarding the children.

Thanks Michael for your info.I checked all available cross border marriages in the Berwick area but in both places pages were missing for that period. I did not check any churches as I presumed that they would then have to be on GRO.I did not check the catholic church as he was osracized by his family for marring a non catholic, although I have not found any baptisms for
any of their children.
