Tyrone / Hyndman/Hindman Omagh
« on: Thursday 07 May 09 00:25 BST (UK)  »
I have been on the board hoping for help with this before but having just come back from another trip to the parish church in Omagh I thought it might be time to try and get past the major stumbling block in my family history once again. :(
I am looking for any possible information on John Hyndman born circa 1786 location unknown who married Margaret nee Hunter in approximately 1825 and who died in Cappagh, Omagh (Mountjoy East) 23rd March 1861.  In the death register at the church he is shown at "of Coromary" we also noticed a couple of unrelated headstones in the cemetery which said from Corrymorey or Corymoney which may be the same place.  The Canon at the church had never heard of this location but assumed it had to be somewhere local.  However since I returned I have found an mention in Griffiths Valuation 1848 - 1864 for a "John Hyndman, Antrim, Carnmoney, Glengormly"  I know this cant be my John Hyndman as during that period he was siring children in Killyclogher and Mountjoy East.. but the coincidence of name and Carnmoney gives me reason to wonder. ???
A little while ago someone contacted me by email through this board saying that they thought he was a mutual relation, I replied but got nothing back so, whoever you are, if you have any information I would love to hear from you. In addition if anyone out there has any ideas where I may be able to go from here to find out his origins I would be really grateful  :D
Many thanks

I am trying to find any information re John Hyndman born around 1786 and married to Mary nee Hunter approx 1825.  They died in 1861 and 1858 respectively.
My daughter and I have recently visited the Cappagh Church of Ireland church and were fortunate enough to see the original parish records so most of our dates appear to be correct.  Sadly there was no record of John or Margaret being born in the parish so we have now hit a dead end ...  ???
Obviously with no central records we could be looking at them being born in any parish in Northern Ireland .. or even in Scotland where the name crops up quite regularly.
Does anyone have any information that may help track down their elusive birth places?
Many thanks   :)

Many thanks for the offer it is really good of you :)  We are flying out there on Monday and have an appointment to look at the Parish records on Tuesday morning.  I do not know if that is actually where the rellies got their place names from but hopefully looking at them may shed some light on things.  If they will let me I will take pics of the entries and post any that we are not sure of ???
Thanks again 8)

Thanks Christopher  :)  I have just been looking at a map of Townlands in Cappagh parish and have found that just between Omagh and Mountjoy Forest East is an area Lisanelly  which is pretty much what I was looking for  :o  I also think I have another idea .. my relative said in the original research that they could not read the writing properly but assumed the place they were reading was Shanghray .. I wonder if it could have been Staughroy which is along side Lisanelly, I mean would these people have moved very far from their roots unless they had to (e.g by emigrating)  :D
I still cant locate a Billybuck anywhere locally but maybe someone local can throw some light on it next week.
Thanks again Christopher ;)

Thanks Christopher, I am not sure if he connects to me but I really hope so ... will try and sort him out.
Can anyone tell me if they now of any of these places, do they still exist or have they been incorporated into other larger towns and cities.  I am looking for Billybuck, Mountjoy East (which I get the impression may be near the border) Lisonelly and Shanghrey?
Sorry to be a bit of a nuisance but I really would appreciate some idea of location etc :-]

Thank you all for your help so far.  It is sounding more and more daunting by the minute!  I have a horrid feeling that we are going to get out there and add absolutely nothing to the search  :'(.  Oh well it will be a nice break I am sure and we will go to Cappagh parish church just in case.
hanks for the links to the church sites, as you say I am sure that we were church of Ireland but to be fair I have no proof to pin that assumption on so we could have been anything  ???
Thanks again and if anyone has any further ideas I will be eternally grateful  :)

Hello Everyone, I have just joined this board and am hoping someone will be kind enough to give me a little advice  :-[
I am tracing the name Hyndman/Hindman who went to NZ from Ireland and then came to England.  I have got past what I thought would be the hardest bit because of distance, that is the New Zealand section.  Now I am finding the Irish bit really tough.
The furthest back I go (these details were given to be by the NZ rellies) is a John Hyndman born about 1800 in Culreahy (now called Killyclogher) and married to a Mary Hunter in approx 1825.  This is before formal registration as far as I know and I can find no record of any protestant church actually in the village.
My daughter and I are going over there for four days on the 21st of this month and I am hoping that someone on here may have some idea of where we could look for possible church records, headstones etc
I hope that someone on here may be able to help .. maybe even be a relative who knows? ???
