Carmarthenshire / rowlands + GRO ref help please x
« on: Wednesday 17 February 10 16:46 GMT (UK)  »
im having major difficulties finding info on Theophilus Rowlands, i have his marriage cert -he married mary Anne harris in glamorgan in 1865, his father is named as isaac rowlands (farmer).

i have him on the 1871 census (penarth) with his wife and 2 children , from that i get his year of birth (1840) and where he was born (camarthan town)

the only births i can find in 1840 ish in camarthan town are for :-
evan - 1840
owen - 1841
william -1841

now im thinking that owen may be the best candidate (lots of owens in the family) so i was going to order the birth cert - but i need the GRO ref and cant find it !

all help and advice is much appreciated

mmmm....now i have found a harriot in 1891 in ledbury -born in lydney in 1852 -lydney could be possible as its very close to woolaston . she is a live in washerwoman and has 2 daughters -fanny (3) and florance (8) - but no sign of a husband and she is marked as S and not a widower.

i also have the same lady in 1901 -ledbury again with her daughter fanny.

does this mean she was unmarried ?

i cant find her in 1881 though ?

i was toying with harriet being his mother too, but finding her is also proving difficult.
i think the way to find out for sure is to get the cert!

i am trying to find the parents of Frederick Frowen - born 1871 -woolaston,

i have found him in the 1881 census living in woolaston with his grandparents mary and henry and their children,

i have also found him in 1891 again with his grandmother (now widowed) and grans daughter lizzie (elizabeth) in woolaston

he crops up in 1901 this time with his aunt lizzy (elizabeth) and her husband albert biggs with their children -again in woolaston also there is an edith there born 1890. his gran died in 1896 -explaining him living with his aunt.

i can find no record of his birth -and no record of him before 1881 - and i am trying to find out who his parents were -and why he was living with his grandparents?

i have him marrying alice shillam jun 1910.

anyone able to offer any advice ?

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Re: Census look up request - ROWLANDS
« on: Saturday 23 August 08 13:06 BST (UK)  »
cheers, yes - we have the other theophilus too, trying to find the family before 1871 is tricky - i got hold of theo's marriage cert and found his fathers name (isaac) as i cant find any trace of theo's birth  - so i thought he may of been illegitimate and therefore a different surname?

any idea where isacc was in 1871? - i was hoping the census would hold the key to isaacs dob and if he was from the same area - also if there were any other children etc?

this line has definatly got me stumped!
