Yorkshire (North Riding) / Horner Walters Knaresborough
« on: Sunday 31 March 24 11:22 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for a gentleman named Horner Walters, b. 1810 Knaresborough. I have him in the census from 1871 in Beverley, East Yorkshire. He marries Catherine Hall.
1871 he is a bootmaker and gives Knaresborough as his birth town but by 1881 he lists himself as born in Hull. He stays in Beverley until his death in 1896.

Is anyone able to find anything on him prior to 1871?
It doesn't help that he has a son also named Horner b. 1851 (c)
Thank you

Thank you for coming back to me.

I also have Maria marrying Jeremiah Hayes 25/1/1821.
I have Maria being buried 24/7/1845 in Dale

John and Margaret were baptised on the same day, this happened occasionally if the father was away. Mary was baptised in Dale 29 May 1795.

Have a look at the facebook group Cemeteries, Graveyards and Burial Grounds of Hull. The group are very friendly and helpful

I know this is an old post but have you ever been able to find any further information? I am a descendant of Maria, she was my 4 times gr grandma.

I know her daughter Maria had a number of illegitimate children.
So far I have managed to evidence Maria and Johns other children:
Elizabeth (b.1791)
Maria (b.1792 - 1870)
Mary (b.1795)
Jon (b.1797)
Margaret (b. 1799 - 1874)
Lettice (b. 1801)

Thanks, this is what has me searching for more details.
There's not much information online for it unfortunately and due to work I can't get to the archives during the week.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Magdalen Home, Leeds
« on: Saturday 08 October 22 14:07 BST (UK)  »
If anyone is going to the WYAS would they be able to look for details of a home for Fallen Women at  3 Wesley street, Leeds. From what I can see it was classed as a home for fallen and friendless women, run by the Magdalen homes. My Great Aunt was sent there 8 February 1917 and left 8 April 1917.
From what I can find it was for pregnant or women who were involved in prostition.
She was sent to a great many homes and institutions in her life but before my mum passed she said she remembers her aunt telling her she was having a baby again every time she had stomach ache.

It's a long shot I know but if you don't ask................... thanks

Thankyou so much, I figured his records would have been lost I couldn't be lucky enough to have all of them.
This gives a bit more of his story.

One of his brothers was awarded the DCM, I do have his records along with another of his brothers.

Thank you fr your help

Armed Forces / East Yorkshire Regiment- Walters

I have 2 photos of my great Uncle Fred Walters (b.23.02.1880 Goole d. 03.01.1924 Hull) I know he served in the East Yorkshire Regiment in 1915 and was injured in 1917 but I'm unable to find any more on his service.
There seems to be a link to his pension on Fold3 but I don't have access to this site, is anyone able to help bulk out his service record at all?
His mother was Betsey Walters, father Frederick Walters
