Graham,

Logans as Masters and Ship Owners.

In a period from 1786 to 1850s, there were several Logans involved with sailing ships, registered on the River Tyne.

In 1780s onwards.. Thomas Logan of Newcastle, his occupation ranged from Mariner, Master Mariner to Ship Owner.  He was Master of the Kingston and part-owner.     He was involved in several ships.
There was also a Thomas Loggan, who was similar
( might even be same man   ) He part-owned and Mastered the "Peggy & Polly", and was involved with the "Peggy" and the "Polly".

There was a Joseph Logan, out of North and South Shields in 1830>50s .

An Edward Logan and A Thomas Logan , both of Newcastle, were joint-owners of the "Carron".

The ship "William"  1810.1844 . This ship was joint-owned by James Logan, a Master Mariner, along with several others. From 22/1/1825, James's ownship ceased and a Joseph Logan , of North Shields was 16 64ths joint owner . Joseph Logan was master of this ship from 10/8/1826 to 30/8/1829.

And finally the only sight of a John Logan was............

The Percy. 1837-1839.
Master from 27/6/1838 to 3/10/1838 was John Logan. Ship was lost 7/1/1839. No Logans were involved in thge ownership of this ship.

Maybe one more ship worth mentioning.....

The Mary, 1824-1836. Originally Joseph Logan, of North Shields,  owned 32 64ths. But he transferred his share thus... 16/64ths to Catherine Watson, widow of  North Shields and 16/64ths to Matthew Hall, butcher of North Shields.

OK one more. Feronig .. register 74/1802 ( 1802 is year)     Owned by the Executor of Thomas Logan.

Michael

I realize that it's been awhile since this thread was posted, but I'm new here, and when doing a "Loggan" search, this is what came up.  I'm fairly sure the Edward and Thomas Logan (probably meant to be Loggan) are mine.  They were a father and son 4 or 5 generations back on my family tree.  I was wondering where you found this rather detailed information about their ships?  Is it accesible online?  My mother, Margaret Loggan, was the last of that family that I know of.

Thanks,

Jennie
