Hi thanks for the email.

Yes, unfortunately it does not look like we are connected, as your thomas hill appears to have been a few generations later than mine.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Barnett - Aldershot and Farnham
« on: Sunday 30 December 07 10:02 GMT (UK)  »
I trying to find the father of wife's great grandfather William Hill Barnett who was born in January 1876 in Heath End, Farnham.  There is no father listed on the birth certificate, just the mother Emily Barnett.

Things appear to go downhill for Emily as two further (fatherless recorded) children are born in the Union Workhouse in Farnham in 1878 (Arthur) and 1879 (Annie).

By the 1881 census, Emily is in living in Aldershot.  William the eldest child is living with his Auntie Charlotte LLoyd (nee Barnett).

In November 1881, Arthur dies at the age of 3 from maltruition and in December 1881 Emily has her fourth child Charlotte (again no father listed).

By the 1890's things appear to be on the up as the families moved to Croydon and Emily marries a George Kingham in 1980 and is listed as a spinster.

When William Hill Barnett married Harriett Plowman in August 1897, interesting his father was listed as William Hill Barnett (deceased) - Labourer.  However, I am pretty sure that this must have been made up, particualrly as there is no such person listed in the bmd's.  My guess is that the father may have been a William Hill and then Emily used her surname.

Does anyone any information or suggested avenues to pursue this matter further.

Thanks

Aaron

Yorkshire (West Riding) / William Gee circa 1790s
« on: Friday 28 December 07 19:01 GMT (UK)  »
I'm have managed to trace my wife's family line out of South London to Yorkshire, via Lincolnshire.

I have got particularly got stuck with a William Gee.  Whilst I have managed to find him on the 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses, his place of birth is shown as either Wentworth, Cadley or just Yorkshire.  His birth is around 1795-180.  William was an accountant  and married a Mary Leeman and died in 1872 in Spalding, Lincolnshire.

I have tried the IGI records, but can't seem to match in Wentworth.

Could anybody be able to help or suggest any other avenues to pursue.

Thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Kempsters

Hi Valda

Thanks for all that information, I knew that Charles Thomas Depree was in the paviours business from apprentice records held on the Origins website, as was his father.

I will need to make a trip to Guildhall in February to check the marriage record.  Thomas being a carpenter also makes sense as later generations were also carpenters.

The Buckinghamshire connection missed me by for the "retirement" of Charles and Esther Depree.

I will certainly also look into those wills and I believe all appear to apply, as James was Charles Thomas Depree's younger brother

Thanks again

Aaron

Thanks for the reply

On census 1841, Thomas is living with 3 of his offspring, but his wife Jemima is nowhere to be found in 1841.  However, she reappears on the 1851 in West Ham with living two of their daugthers and a niece.  Jemima is listed as a widower.  I have found the death record for Thomas in last quarter of 1850 also in West Ham.

Staffordshire / Hill's Rugeley 1700s
« on: Wednesday 26 December 07 09:15 GMT (UK)  »
I have managed to trace my Hill family out of London to Rugeley at the end of the 1780/90s.

I worked my way through the Rugeley bishop transcripts and parish index from Burntwood, but have got stuck.

I have Thomas Hill marrying a Dorothy Grateley on 29 October 1753 by Banns at St Augustine in Rugeley.  Unfortunately, I can't find a Thomas Hill being born in Rugeley within an appropriate timescale.  When I search Thomas Hill in the Staffordshire IGI I get 45 possibilities between 1720 to 1737.  Any help would be most welocme

Thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Kempsters

I have managed to trace my Kempster family line from Peckham, Camberwell, Newington, St Bride-Fleet Street, St Dunstan in the West, to St Sepulchre  and have got got struck with Thomas Kempster (born around 1786 - based upon 1841 census).

Thomas married Jemima Charlotte Depree in 1812 at St Sepulchre (from Pallot's marriage index).  They had 11 number of children and lived either side of the river, ie, eastern extremes of the City of London or Newington in Southwark.  Thomas appears on the 1841 census a builder living at   Fenchurch Buildings, Fenchurch Street, St Katherine Coleman in London, Middlesex.  But was listed as not being born in Middlesex.

Does anyone have any information that you could share on these Kempster's living in London and help me get a bit further back.

Many thanks in advance

Aaron
