Family History Beginners Board / Dead end on Reginald Throsby
« on: Saturday 08 December 07 15:26 GMT (UK)  »
There are so many clever people on here i wonder if you could help

My ancestor (G Grandfather) Reginald Throsby was born in Sheffield in 1883 (4/1/83)

I know he was married to a Bessie Throughton b1888 in Stow and she died in 1917

He then married my G Grandmother Harriet Ethel Mann b 27/11/1888 in Selby Yorks.

At some time in the early 1920's he left my G grandmother and was not really heard of again i cannot find any trace of him after 1917 in Doncaster when he was married.

It is possibly he had a drink problem and went to live on the streets all i have been told was that his wife saw him later and "he wasnt doing well" but no real mention of what exactly happened.

I've searched the BMD register to no avail and dont know where else to check.

Family History Beginners Board / Can a local library help??
« on: Thursday 06 December 07 11:43 GMT (UK)  »
I have traced most of my ancestors but want to flesh out the bones a little.

A couple of my ancestors lived in Bristol , one was a lodging house keeper and his son was a wine trader and employed quite a few people.

Apart from trying to find the houses where they lived what other information could i get in the locality???

Would the central library have anything like business directories of the time 1890-1910

Any other suggestions

I have the date of Henry's death as 1883 so he was still alive and married in 1861 no idea where he was i dont think i could find a census entry for him either

His mother was Matilda Neighbour from Slough , his father Henry and Matilda met when both in service , Matilda died and Henry remarried Eliza Braun

Henry was a butler for a bristol trader , quite how he went from being in service to a lodging house keeper in a very desirable area of Clifton we dont quite know.

George went to Colston School and remarkably was in the same class as my wifes g g g grandfather amazing co-incidence

Thanks all helpful

I have the census info but thats about all , i'll try the directories , i'd like to know what his business was called , where it was based etc.

His name appears in newspapers suggesting he was a pillar of the community and involed in charitable orginisations etc but its all very sketchy.

I am trying to get more information on my ancestor George Fielding b1857 Barton Regis Bristol

All i know is that he went to Colston School and was a wine trader in Bristol presumably did quite well as he lived in Clifton

How can i find out more about him , more about his business and where and when he died

Family rumour has it he was involved with Harveys of Bristol and owned part of the company but i doubt this
