Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Vernons of Misterton and Bothamsall
« on: Tuesday 11 January 11 23:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm currently researching the Vernons of Bothamsall and know that there is only one family in the village.  I am aware that there are a few Vernon families in Misterton and wonder if there is any link between the two.

I have found a Roger Vernon and Allice in the 1841 Bothamsall Census aged 75 - Roger is not a very common name and I can only find one marriage on the LDS site for a Roger marrying an Alice in 1805 in Bothamsall.  So I need to find a Roger Vernon born in approximately 1766.

Is there anyone out there who may have come across any link between the two villages or is researching the same family.

Many thanks,

Loulou12

Hi,

I wonder if your kind offer still stands.

I am looking into the Lingard and Conley families and have found that there is a possibility that a couple of my ancestors appeared in the Assizes at various times - I'm not sure what records still exist but I've found on Ancestry the following information and wonder if there is any further details available.

All the persons below - as far as I understand it - lived in the Hebden Bridge/Todmorden area

William Lingard - County Sessions Preston 16 October 1839
William Lingard - July 1825
William Lingard - 4 April 1853, 29 November 1855, 13 October 1856, February 1861, 22 February 1865

James Lingard - Epiphany 1832, 15 October 1855, 6 January 1871

Thomas Conley - 6 April 1863, 16 October 1878 and 19 May 1847

I realise that this is a lot of info to ask for but I'd be really grateful for any help you could give even if its just to point me in the right direction.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Nottinghamshire / Settlement Certificate Help
« on: Sunday 10 October 10 21:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I wonder if someone can help me?  I'm looking for a Settlement Certificate for a John Vernon - I have found him in Bothamsall but cannot locate his original place of birth.  He married his wife Ann Holmes in Mansfield Woodhouse.

John's family eventually came back and settled in Mansfield Woodhouse - that part's easy :-)

I know this may sound very basic but does a settlement certificate show which town/village you came from before the town/village you are at the moment settling in?

Very many thanks for any help you can give,

Loulou

Dublin / Re: Parish Register - Peter Dillon
« on: Thursday 16 September 10 22:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi Shane

Unfortunately I have no idea whether Peter came from the country or the suburbs.  Peter's second marriage took place in a Catholic Church but I don't know whether that was his wife's religion or his.

I will have a look at the records you suggest.

Many thanks,

Lou

Dublin / Parish Register - Peter Dillon
« on: Thursday 16 September 10 21:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'm looking for information regarding my direct ancestor Peter Dillon who as born in Dublin around 1808/1809.  His father's name was Edward this is the only information I have on him unfortunately.

Peter was a carpenter in the 1861 census in Plumstead in England.  Peter married his second wife Annis Wallace in Kendal in 1854 and his status is widower.

From family stories it seems as though Peter came to England to work as a carpenter but I do not know when.

I hope someone can help me.

Many thanks in advance.

Dear Tati and DS

Sorry I've been so quiet - couldn't get to the computer last night

You've got it spot on, from the info that Nicky came back with I was able to find Thomas at Cheetham and came to the same conclusion.

And I can confirm that my Ellen did indeed marry Frank Sutcliffe.

I am very new to Rootschat and am so pleased to have found you, I've been doing Family history for some time and have had great difficulty with this particular family and yet in the space of 3 days with your help have solved the puzzle.

Unfortunately I didn't have any references to post as I got the little information I had from comparing several different census search sites such as origins, ancestry and 1901 census, plus certificates.

So thank you once again - you are all fantastic :D
