I have received a reply from the Hitcham Historical Recorder, who has informed me that he has no knowledge of Hospital Cottage, but it could have been demolished and another building placed on the site, possibly at the beginning of Bury Road, and Balls Hill.

Thanks

Dave

Since posting, I have discovered that it is called "Hospital Cottage",  Bury Road.

I have looked on Google Street view, but have been unable to locate it, which makes me wonder if it is still in existence, as I have also completed a Google Search.

Can anyone identify where this cottage is in Hitcham, and if it is still in existence? Our family lived there around 1947

My Father worked on a local farm, and I remember that there was a stream in the back yard.

Galway / John Mannion
« on: Thursday 27 October 11 01:40 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grandparents David(William) Collis and Kate Mannion were married at St Nicholas Galway on 6th October 1869. Kate's parents are given as John Mannion and Mary. My Great grandfather was a Private in the 89th Regiment of Foot.

I have been unable to confirm Kate's birth, but believe it to be 9-9-1847 in Ardrahan.

I have found a marriage in the IGI for a marriage between John Mannion and Mary Connolly on 16-2-1846 at Ardrahan.

Can anyone please assist me in confirming this and any other information.

Have now received a copy of Robert Collis Will from GRO. an interesting document written the week before his burial in December 1808. Unfortunately did not tell me anything new.

I have studied a film of the Great Barrington PR's which I obtained from the LDS Library. Quality was very poor, my eyes ache, but again I have not really found anything new.

Have also searched Phillimore's Marriage records online for various listed Parishes in the Gloucester/Berkshire area, still no record of marriages. Have also searched some Oxford PR's  of which I have CD copies. Where did they come from ??

Hi Michael

I am not sure if this will help, but from the Nacton Parish transcript 1757 - 1837:

Thomas Weaver ( Widower) married Elizabeth Little (Widow) 2 May 1809 Witnesses Robert Spall, Ruth Goldsmith, George Fox

Elizabeth Little's previous marriage is as follows Benjamin Little married  Elizabeth Sporle 9 August 1803 at Nacton Witnesses Robert Spall , George Fox.

Benjamin's Burial is recorded on 25 December 1803 age 28

Elizabeth Sporle was christened 22 August 1776, Mother Sarah and father Job Sporle.

Esther Weavers B 6 May 1809 Christened 15 October d.o Thomas and Elizabeth(Little) Widow
William Weavers B 13 March 1811 christened 17 march 1811 s.o. Thomas and Elizabeth (Little)
Thomas Weavers  Christened 8 May 1816
Mary Ann Weavers Christened 31 March 1818

I can find no record of Thomas Weaver in the Transcript of the Birth records for Nacton back to 1757

Kind regards

Dave

Thank you both for your replies, I have looked at the IGI and pilot search for Great Barrington, but only births for the period seem to be listed, I cannot find any marriages.

The marriage of William Colliss to Mary Kendall 5th May 1751 Great Rissington appears to be too early, and I had discounted it.

I did find another William Collis Birth which is a close fit, who was born 1751 Minster Lovell Oxford to a Deodatus and Ann Collis, but again cannot find any marriages

I found an interesting document  online called "A poll of the election of a knight for the Shire County of Gloucester" 6th May - 17th May 1776 Page 81 under Slaughter Hundreds, Little Barrington where Robert Collis is listed as owning Land.
