Hi Lodger,

Thank you very much for reply.  There is now another addition to my DNA matches which is through William King who married Jannet Cross then through their descendants.

I do not know if this may be a clue or not:

CS271/38164 is a Bill of suspension for John King at Milnton of Dalziel against Mrs Anne Connel at Fulwood. John is accused of owing Anne Connell 5 pounds sterling, for the purchase of a clock. It contains several pages stitched into a booklet.

Bill of Suspension  (38164)

And
Mrs Anne Connel at Fulwood

Mr Douglas  W.S.

Mrs Anne Connell referred to is the wife of John King and the mother of John King who she is taking action on.

Another portion of the document states:

By Assignation and Deed of Settlement executed by the Deceased John King, Farmer at Unthank, my Father in favor of his Wife and Children bearing date the 23rd day of August 1810, he specially assigned and made over to me, his eldest Son, his whole Estate real and personal of every description, which consisted principally of his farm of Unthank.

I have transcribed the document from 1816 where it goes into further information and I was wondering if I sent you a copy of the Word Document would you be willing to read it in the hope you may find something I am not interpreting correctly please?

The post "Re: King Family, Motherwell - James, Thomas, Alexander, William Dick" where you provided extremely useful information has been a go to .  This was post was by SamK.

I have been able to locate quite a bit of informtion for other King family members through James King and Helen Hamilton by using the names appearing in this post with King family members coming to Australia and then being able to break down brick walls.

There are a number of what I will call family members descended through William Jamieson and Elizabeth King that also have the DNA matches which would take us back to John King and Margaret Neilson so I do not believe I have been barking up the wrong tree for many years.

You have previously assisted me with the Cunningham, Clelland and associated families for which I am very thankful.

Kind regards
Judi

CS271/1354 is again a single folded sheet and refers to a John King, lately prisoner in the Tolbooth of Hamilton, and an action against him by Mrs Ann Connel residing at Fullwood.

I have looked high and low for the documents mentioned in the actions above between John King and his Mother Ann Connel dated  1816 and 1817.

Would someone be able to direct me on where to look at I have trolled through National Archives, ScotlandsPeople etc.

I am keeping my fingers crossed something may come to light to be proof positive in relation to John King (1756) once and for all.

My reasoning with my believe John is the son of John King and Margaret is I have DNA matches through Ann King born 1744, James King 1745 who married Helen Hamilton then through their son Alexander King 1784 - 1862 who married Marion Boyce then through their son Alexander King Abt 1836 - 1912 who married Janet Wilson and this couple went to New Zealand and Alexander King who married Margaret Hinshaw / Hynshaw.

Kind regards

Lanarkshire / Seeking assistance King Family Motherwell

Hello from Australia, I have recently posted the message below on Re: King Family, Motherwell - James, Thomas, Alexander, William Dick however I believe it may have become lost with the rest of the excellent information in this message.  I am also going through the children of John King and Margaret Neilson tidying up the information I have located and putting it all into a genealogy program.

I have been looking at this post on and off for a number of years now as I am connected to the King Family through John King born to John King and Margaret Neilson.  This couple are my 5 x Great Grandparents.  John King married Ann Connal (and spelling variants).  I am a descended from their daughter Elizabeth King (1792 - 1875) who married William Jamieson with this couple making their way to Australia after the 1851 Census and before 4 May 1854 when their daughter married Archibald McMillan / MacMillan.  My cousin is descended through Janet King 1796 – 1876 daughter of John and Ann mentioned above.  Janet married Robert Gray.  Descendants from this couple also ended up in Australia through my cousin's family lineage as well as sons of Robert Gray and Janet nee King ended up in New Zealand.

First of all if this message comes to the eyes of Lodger, I sent you a PM on 31 March 2024 to let you know I was looking into the family of John King and Margaret Neilson and their children more thoroughly than the rough notes I have done over the years.

Although there has never been information located for John King which can confirm my descendancy from this chap, I have found my research is being questioned by a few King Family members.

Having taken a DNA test in August 2022 I am finding DNA connections to the families of John King and Margaret Neilson through the Neilson family and also through the King family through this couple's daughter Ann King 1744 who married William Neilson, James King (1745 - Abt 1798) who married Helen Hamilton (Abt 1756 - 1839) then through their son Alexander King (1784 - 1862)  who married Marion Boyce (1796 - 1873) and down the line to their descendants who also ended up in New Zealand, William King (1754) who married Jannet Cross (1754) through their daughter Bethea King and lastly Alexander King (who married Margaret Hinshaw (1791 - 1863) then through their daughter Margaret King who married William Reid (1789 - 1878) going to descendants to this couple.  Is it reasonable to cautiously believe that my connection with all these matches is that John King (1756 - Before 1816) as I am unable to find any other reason?

Technical Help / Re: Ancestry Two-step verification with DNA accounts not your own
« on: Saturday 20 April 24 02:30 BST (UK)  »
Good morning Garry,
It took until the middle of February to finally get satisfaction and I telephoned them and spoke with a lady named Gina who assisted.  I ended up getting the email provider to monitor what was happening with my messages and they were receiving them the same length of time to their server.  As luck would have it they set up a webmail account with the parent company so I could get Ancestry emails through this one however it was not with issue and this is when I telephoned Ancestry and speaking to Gina.

Ancestry would not accept their email address they gave me so what Gina did was to set the email address herself on the Ancestry server and then sent me a code to make sure I could log into Ancestry using the email address.  All in all it took about 30 minutes to set up by Ancestry, send me the code and waited until I logged out and then logged back in a couple of times with say a 5 to 10 minute delay between doing this.  I had no problems after this, thank goodness.  I also have an account with MyHeritage and their code reaches me in no more than 2 minutes.  They went over to two step verification as well and this worked like a charm as well.  If other platforms can get the verifications working smoothly what is the problem with Ancestry getting it right as well, who knows.  I wish you well and perhaps you could investigate with your email provider to see if something can be done for you.

Kind regards  Judi

Technical Help / Re: Ancestry Two-step verification with DNA accounts not your own
« on: Thursday 14 December 23 20:33 GMT (UK)  »
Ancestry two step verification I can understand but trying to force you to have a gmail account or apple account is beyond belief.  I had a gmail account a few years ago and because I did not use it often enough it was deleted.  When I tried to create another email address it told me that I already had one and to change the password????

Another thing with gmail is that it does not like my email provider and blocks the email address.  If I ever receive an email via gmail I am unable to answer it because it is bounced back by gmail.

The other problem I have is I do not have a smart phone and have no wish to purchase one.  We have a landline to our home.

Asking ancestry to send the code to my email address they already have is beyond belief.  It takes 15 minutes to an hour to receive their code.  Who are they sending this code through, gmail!!!

I have been a subscriber with ancestry since 2003.  I am still waiting to hear when they have been able to fix the issue of the receipt of the code within the 5 minute time frame.

Has anyone else experienced this and how did they go around this please?

Kind regards  Judi
