Somerset / Re: Sarah Board, born around 1780

Managed to obtain some more info on my Kitch ancestors. Ann Kitch was the daughter of Eli 1786 and Isabella 1796 and on the 1941 census is listed along with siblings Soloman 1818, George 1823, Eli 1827 , Ruth 1831 and Thomas 1840 in Ashill. I'm sure there will be a link somewhere with your Keitch/Kitch ancestors but may need to go further back to obtain the relationship. I found this online and emailed David who has been very helpful http://www.davidkeetch.com/index.html

Thanks - I don't have those names in my tree yet but both Keitch and Crabb seem to have been quite prolific names in the Ashill area so quite likely related. I have only managed to get back as far as Jacob Crabb 1796 married possibly to Frances, parents of Henry 1824 and on the Keitch side all I have is Ann 1826 with brothers Solomon 1818 and George 1823. Henry and Ann both died quite young it seems and I don't know what happened to their 2 older children George 1848 and Ruth 1850. Any more info gratefully received!

Hi - I realise it is a long time since this was posted but my research into the Keitch (Keetch/Kitch) family of Ashill keeps coming up with these posts. I am the great-grandaughter of Elizabeth Bertha Crabb born Ashill 10/3/1857. I think she was the daughter of Ann Keitch b. 1826 who married Henry Crabb b. 1824 in 1848. in the 1861 census Elizabeth (often listed as Bertha)  is with her uncle George Kitch and his family and in the 1871 census she is with her uncle Solomon Kitch and his family. I am assuming her parents had died and have found deaths on FreeBMD for Henry Crabb 1857 and Ann Crabb 1861 both in the  Chard area. In the 1851 census Henry and Ann had 2 other children George . 1848 and Ruth 1850 but I can find no further details for them. If anyone has an information on this or the ancestors of Ann Keitch I would be very grateful for any help.

After a considerable length of time I have resumed tracing this branch of my family tree. I obtained the birth certificate for my great grandmother Elizabeth Bertha Crabb 10/3/1857 Ashill distict of Ilminster, Somerset and her parents are Henry Crabb (labourer) and Ann Keetch (sometimes spelt Kitch). I have checked census details and FreeBMD and I think Ann was born in 1826 and died in 1861 which would explain why Elizabeth Bertha is listed with her uncles Solomon and George Kitch in the 1861 and 1871 censuses respectively. Ann and Henry married in 1848 (Chard district) and a Henry Crabb died in 187 but I can't be sure it is him. I am trying to find out if Henry and Ann had other children between 1848 and 1857. Any help would be very welcome.

Thanks for all help given - have now established birth of Thomas as 1843 Exbourne and death probably 1893 Gloucester. I think the anomalies in his ages were misread census transcripts but Elizabeth's age is definitely incorrect in both 1891 and 1901 census. Am now trying to establish relationship between my Thomas and the one born in 1848 in Exbourne to Thomas Ward 1810 and Ann Paddon 1819. I think Thomas 1810 is either the son of John Ward 1780 or William 1791but not sure how I can find out. Any ideas?

I have recently resumed my family tree research and found a few anomalies. It appears that the Thomas Ward 1848 Exbourne whom I had as the father of James 1881 Bristol is incorrect and James' father may have been born c 1844 and was the son of John 1803 and Mary Ann 1799, who also had older children John 1826, Elizabeth 1828, Mary Ann 1831, Jane 1833, Ann 1836, Harriet 1841 and Thomas c 1844 (as seen on the census for Exbourne in 1841 and 1861). I cannot find any birth record for Thomas in 1844 although FreeBMD shows Thomas's born in the Okehampton area in 1840, 1842, 1843 and 1848. Also there is no mention of Mary Ann in the 1861 census entry for Exbourne where John is listed at 7 Village age 58 with Thomas 17 but there is a Mary A in Stoke Damerel and a death of a Mary Ann in 1862 so perhaps she was in hospital. If anyone can throw any more light on any of this and/or find the parents of John Ward 1903 I would be very grateful.
