Mansfield district    vol 7b, page 381

Peake, George
Hill, Eva

Thankyou...this could be a possibility..although George would have been 50 getting married. However the best lead so far!! Do you know if this George was born in Swansea by any chance?Or his age getting married?

There is a George H Peake marriage in Swansea in 1932 but the wife is not Eva. Could have been another relative on the condolence card. Have you considered whether it may have been a sister or a cousin?

I think this marriage is likely to be the marriage of George Henry born in 1907, not my George, and Eva is definitely not a sister...might be a cousin... but thanks anyway!

I'm trying to find details of the wife of George Henry Peake born in Swansea c1883. George sent a condolence letter to my grandmother on the death of her husband signed George and Eva in 1942. George was living in Swansea in 1901 and I found the birth of a George Henry Peake in Swansea in 1907, but I cannot find a marriage anywhere
Many thanks

Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Re: Powell family
« on: Saturday 10 May 14 00:49 BST (UK)  »
Just resumed researching my Powell family. I found that thomas was born in 1685 and married Ann prichard born c 1700...they had three children already mentioned and after the death of both parents the children were cared for by a John Pritchard. I'm trying to find whether he was Anne's brother or father..can you help please? Also found that on his death c1717 Thomas Powell (yeoman) owed rent to Richard Cuny. Could Thomas have been a tenant farmer on Richard Cuny's land?I'm still looking for the parents of thomas with little success.

World War Two / Pioneer corps, 174 company
« on: Monday 22 October 12 23:15 BST (UK)  »
I've obtained my father's service records and I recently discovered that my father served with the Pioneer corps 174 company in WW2 in France, Holland and Germany from Aug 1944 until Apr 1946. I would love to know the details of what his company was doing and where he served. Could you help please? I wondered whether the company would have had a log? His name was William Lewis Peake, and his service no. was 142869
Many thanks

World War Two / WW2 Pioneer corps, Gillespie squad
« on: Saturday 15 September 12 22:24 BST (UK)  »
I have a photograph of my father who I think was in the Royal army service corps, Pioneer corps, Gillespie Squad. He lived in Swansea, South Wales. I have a number which I think is his service number-1759332. I've tried typing this into ancestry records with no result. Does anyone know the best way of finding out what he did and where he served during the war? I know he was in France and Belgium, but that's all
