Birthplace Leven, nr Beverley.

Wasn't with Isabella but with William Thomas Knaggs parents Richard & Mary Ann Knaggs.

Have also found an Ann Stephenson on the 1841 census as a servant at Ruswarp, this is very near to Aislaby!!

Hi Milliepede,

Witnesses were William Thomas Knaggs & Isabella Knaggs.

Have just looked on the 1861 census and there was an Ann Stephenson (lodger) living with the Knaggs family and also on the 1871 census!

Sounds like that could well be Marys mother  ;D

The 1861 census with Richard Stephenson & Ann show Mary born in Howden, this isn't near Aislably so I have ruled that one out.

Milliepede
Easingwold is near York whereas Aislaby is near Whitby.

The Mary I found on the 1861 census is shown as born in Aislaby, unmarried, working as housekeeper in Gristhorpe.

Have hit a brick wall with my great great grandmother Mary Stephenson born 1843.

She married Emanuel Barr 25 Nov 1862 but no father is shown on the marriage certificate.

On the 1871 census she states place of birth Aislaby. I have found a Mary Stephenson on the 1861 census at Grispthorpe with place of birth Aislaby so I'm guessing this is her. She died 1880 so nothing later.

Cannot find her on the 1851 census and stumped as to how I can find out who her parents are, nothing showing on the IGI.

Any help/idea's very welcome  :)

Wow, thank you all so much for this information.

I didn't even know that some actual parish records were shown on family search, just goes to show how fantastic this forum is for helping to point people in the right direction.

Once again, thank you all  ;D

Would be grateful of any help regarding my 4x great grandparents.

I have William Edward Waterson born abt 1819 Blofield, Norfolk. I have found the following marriage on the IGI:

groom's name: William Edward Waterson
bride's name: Caroline Lummens
marriage date: 06 Jun 1842
marriage place: Norwich, Norfolk, England
groom's father's name: George Waterson
bride's father's name: John Lummens
indexing project (batch) number: I02576-5
system origin: England-EASy
source film number: 1526323

On ancestry Caroline's surname is shown as Summons.

Would anybody have access to parish records to confirm details.

I would be most grateful if you could look up my exciseman ancestor on Athens please?

He was John Winteringham (Wintringham) c.1780.
I have listings of him being an excise officer on his childrens christenings:
Lockwood, Yorkshire 1809
St Helens, Lancashire 1814
Liverpool, Lancashire 1817
Liverpool, Lancashire 1819
I have no record of his death and cannot trace one anywhere either. On the 1841 & 1851 census his wife is shown as 'widow of excise officer' and her death certificate states her occupation as 'widow of supervisor of excise'.

I do hope to be able to visit the National Archives one day but any information at all would be wonderful.

Trish

Hoping somebody may be able to help with memorial inscriptions for Hutton Buscel and East & West Ayton.

Looking for the surname Winteringham/Wintringham.

Many thanks   ;D

Hello everybody,

I too am trying to find some information on an excise officer. I have searched the National Archives catalogue but to no avail.

My ancestor is shown as being an excise officer on his childrens baptisms and when his wife died she stated her occupation as 'widow of supervisor of excise'.

Can anybody give any pointers as to where I should be looking?

Many thanks,
Trish
