Thank you Victoria for your posting.  My ancestors were in Lambeth Walk in 1874 but there's some confusion because they changed the numbering. I think this was due to the Railway arriving.  The bakers was originally at No. 124 and I thought they had moved but apparantly according to a website I found No. 124 was changed to No.71.  The bakers was actually nextdoor to The Angel Pub.  I visited the Walk a couple of years back and fortunately the terrace that contained the bakers and The Angel is still standing and is the only part of the walk with a preservation order on it. Have you visited?  I have some digital photos which also show The Angel now a Hostel - if you would like me to send you a copy?

Thanks Heather, for the link and the welcome. I must admit I never expected the response - it just shows what a nice bunch Genealogists are!

Meles,

Thank you - that would be great if you could ask your friend sometime.
I'm hoping he's quite elderly!  The terrace where my Gt Grandfather's shop was is still standing, a preservation committee managed to get enough support to stop the demolision of that one section, which is wonderful.

I'm trying to find a photo or any information on a Baker's Shop at 71 Lambeth Walk, Lambeth, London.  It was owned by my 2 x Gt Grandfather Henry Loeber and he baked there from the late 1870's then his son took it over and I understand from my Great Grandmother that the 'Loeber' sign existed until after WW2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
