After a long break I have tried to pick up the family tree again. For all those who have expressed an interest in George Sinclair Biddall Freeman I have created a basic website - www.myraheath.webs.com which I hope you will find useful. This is a work in progress.........

Interesting  :o - I followed the Wikipedia link and wonder if the following line is sigificant -

"Simple aiguillettes are worn by Lance Corporals of the Household Cavalry and by bandsmen of Dragoon Guards and Dragoon regiments in full dress."

Could GSBF be a bandsman?  When not in the army he was a theatre musician - primarily a drummer.

My grandmother's diary mentions 'george sinclair biddall freeman's' (GSBF) stepbrother called Joseph Biddall (spelt Biddle in grandmother's notes). She says Joseph vistited fairs in Workington, Cumberland in 1900's.

The diary also says that GSBF was the youngest of fourteen children.  His mother was married twice and had seven children named biddall and seven named freeman.

She also mentions GSBF's 'stepbrother' (possxibly half brother) Sam and his wife Polly and their son called Sammy and their shooting gallery and coconut shy.

She also remembers meeting 'Albert' who she remember's as very very wealthy with 'his wagon as long as two coaches of a train'.

Those uniforms couldn't be more different could they?  I don't really understand the signifiance of the lanyard - i have managed to get hold of a copy of the original photograph and i will try to get a high quality scan of the hat badge and shoulder detail.

The marksman informatoin definitely makes sense and my grandmother's diary says that her uncle's rifle range made a fortune with young men practising before they enlisted!!!!

George Samuel Freeman is listed as 'Dealer' on the certificate.  The witnesses names on the certificate are hard to read but i think they say 'Alexander Humphrey' and 'B------ A.M.Pearson'.  Date 11th July 1907.

My Grandmother believed Gelorge Sinclair Biddall freeman was born in Scotland

I did look at WW1 medal cards but couldn't narrow them down without knowing a regiment.  I don't have a precise date of birth.

Gosh - thakyou for all that.  i have been given my grandmother's diary today (the little girl in the photo) and in it she saysher father's brother owned a fairground shooting gallery - which could well explain the marksman link!!!  It also says he was at 'Woolwich Arsenal' and that he was in the army before the war, left, then re-enlisted at start of WW1.

I am looking for any information about George Sinclair Biddall Freeman born in 1875 and married to Ruth Ethel Pearson from Darlington in Durham.  Their marriage certificate lists him as a theatre musician and his father's name as George Samuel Freeman.  Other than that, we have no more information.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thankyou, Lib.

I am trying to identify this uniform from WW1, we believe the photo was taken very roughly about 1915.  The man's name is Geoge Sinclair (Biddall) Freeman but we know very little else about him.  Thankyou, Lib.
