finally i found out how to reply to you.  Yes please, I just saw this message and I think he's the Lipman I'm looking for. I was thrown off by his wife Francis. His second wife, not my ancestor. I wonder how easy it would be finding his first wife Rachel (nee) Joseph who died sometime from 1823 to when he married Francis. I think 1827 at the Great Synagogue in London. Do you know where I would find out where Rachel his first wife was buried and what date she died and the date of his second marriage.  Goodness me I hope she didnt die giving birth to my great great grandfather Lewis. If so, no wonder he left London at 19 and headed down under.

Regards,
Lisa

Fife / Stark Family Fife
« on: Thursday 27 October 05 23:14 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have a connection to the stark family of fife. My connection is with Michael Stark, father of famous painter James Stark (original Norwich School of Painters). Michael came from Fife supposedly. Lived and died in Norwich, buried at non conformists grave yard norwich, owned a dye factor on Wensum River, created "norwich red" colour still in use today. James' paintings fetch 30,000gbp, despite all this info, cant find any definite confirmation of Michael Stark's Fife roots, born c1749 died 1831, married Jane Ivory of norwich, neice of thomas ivory architect of many buildings in norwich city centre, again despite this, michael's fife roots remain elusive. Any connections, leads, suggestions, help grateful for. Michael and Jane's grandson Charles barlow became a convict and sent to Australia.

Hi there,
I'm looking for traces of my gggfather's family in England.
This info comes from a newspaper announcement in the Sydney Morning Herald in Australia because his son lived there.  What Im trying to do is find out about the family my g/g/grandfather Lewis Lipman left behind.  Please bear in mind that if you find out this info you will be making a lot of people happy because although the family in Australia is HUGE, noone has yet been able to crack this nut and there have been many who have tried.  I keep meeting more and more distant relatives through these ancestral websites like you wouldnt believe and I feel like Im the last runner holding the batton, so please.......  Its not like i havent tried, I started family research when I was 21 and im now 39! :-X

The info I have is as follows (an extract from an email from a relative in Australia):

"Lewis did not put addresses on the copies of his letters,
in the letter book. The only address we have is on Joseph LIPMAN'S death notice in the Sydney Morning Herald "on 16/8/1860 Milend Rd, London Mr Joseph Lipman beloved father of Lewis Lipman. 85 years".  On his death
certificate the sub-district is MILE END OLD TOWN EASTERN in the County of MIDDLESEX. I think he died at 4 Moses Alms Houses.  Sorry, that is all we have. WE have nothing on Joseph Josephs and I don't really know who you mean by that name. Joseph Lipman's wife, Rachel, was
born Rachel Joseph, I think."

Further helpful info in your search is that Lewis Lipman emigrated to Australia in 1842 on the William Turner ship.  He was 19 at that time.  He was listed as Jewish, and on this same boat report it states his mother Rachel Lipman, nee Joseph was deceased, well, what it says is "father living" (if i could figure out how to post pics i would attach it now simply for interest sake).

I would assume that the Joseph Joseph I'm thinking of that they have no knowledge of is perhaps from Lewis mother (Rachel Joseph) family.

Any leads will be MUCHLY MUCHLY appreciated and as a return favour, I can look up scandinavian records for you and maybe australian ones too, although they are newer to the internet and i havent had much success but i have contacts, so please, i'm relying on the kindness of strangers to help solve this mystery and i'll luvs ya 4eva!
