@ Doun

The earliest Bryce I have is my ggg grandfather Thomas Bryce who is in the Dalry (Ayr) PR as a weaver and the natural father of John Bryce (b.1818).

John's mother, Elizabeth Chalmers, was born in 1799, so presumably Thomas was of a similar age. There are no Bryce baptisms in the Dalry PR before John's,  and apart from a farmer in Maybole, no Thomas Bryce baptisms in Ayrshire. So he's an incomer probably born 1795-1800.

There are 26 Thomas Bryce baptisms between 1780 and 1804 in ScotlandsPeople. I've eliminated 13 as potential candidates due to wrong occupation, early death, emigration, or marriage in home parish. He could very well have been Irish.

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Job KIRTON Baptism ca. 1748 Biddlesden
« on: Thursday 23 July 09 17:31 BST (UK)  »
Job KIRTON married Susannah BLACKWELL in Whifield Northants 31 May 1771.

Job was 'of Biddlesdon' according to the Whitfield PR.

I wonder if the Biddlesden PR baptisms for the peiod have survived and if sks has access to them to see if Job is mentioned. IGI doesn't have Biddlesen on line.

Thanks
Rich

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage: Whitfield 1771
« on: Thursday 23 July 09 10:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi Sandy,

Thanks again for your help.  That makes sense, Job being from across the border in Biddlesden.

A Job Kirton and a Susannah raised a family in Pattishall, which is where my 3xgr grandfather Job Kirton was born. His grandparents seem almost certainly to be Job and Susannah. The couple who married in Whitfield are the only candidates in IGI, though I haven't checked the NMI for other possibilities.

My next search is going to be the Blackwells.

A never ending story eh :)

Cheers
Rich

Northamptonshire / THOMPSON CARLEY BARRETT Grafton Underwood 1700's
« on: Thursday 16 July 09 17:14 BST (UK)  »
Looking for background and family of whom I believe to be my 5x and 4x gr grandparents. I wonder if anyone has them in their tree?

Lewis THOMPSON m. Susannah CARLEY 24 April 1747 Grafton Underwood (banns 24 April).
Son John b.4 May 1760,

John THOMPSON married Ann BARRETT 30 Jan 1785, in Grafton

Ann BARRETT b. 1 Aug 1762 Grafton, parents John BARRETT and Sarah

John THOMPSON and Ann had two children that I can find.  John b.1789 and Susannah b.1792, both in Grafton.

Susannah married James CLIPSTON from Geddington Oct 1812.

Susannah gave  Grafton Underwood as her birth place in the census. Backtracking gives me this set of links.
