Hello,
I don't know if you are still searching for details of James Barr.  A few days ago I received a copy of a marriage certificate from Emerald Ancestors.  The wedding was 11th Oct 1880 at Londonderry Cathedral in the parish of Templemore (Church of Ireland).  The groom was James F Barr, full age, Bachelor, occupation was Blacksmith, residence at time of marriage was Bellshill, Toll Barr, Glasgow, father's name and occupation Robert John Barr, Blacksmith.

The bride was Mary Ann Quigley, Full age, Spinster, occupation Servant, residence at time of marriage was 13 Society Street, Derry, father's name and occupation William Quigley, Farmer.  Witnesses were James English and Mary Wilson.

Best wishes

Hi singingsusie,
Here is the information I have on Percy.

Full name - Percy Augustus Learoyd

b. 1849 Huddersfield
baptised 18 October 1850 - St Peters Church Huddersfield
m. Mary Stuart Mitchell  15 Aug 1859 - Park Church Glasgow
d. 27 March 1924 - Henley on Thames

Percy on his marriage certificate stated his occupation as a Shipowner.

I don't know if Percy and Mary had any children.

There are a couple of mentions for Percy in the London Gazette one on 18 Feb 1876 dissolving a Cotton Spinners and Doubling business called Williamson and Learoyd in Huddersfield and one on 30 August 1878 dissolving a partnership involving a Shipowners and Brokers in London.

That is about all I have.

Hope it helps!

Kate

There was a large Learoyds Mill on Leeds Road, Huddersfield.  Further on the road is Bradley.  Would your relatives have been connected to the Mill.  The building is now used by a tile company, but I'm sure it would not be difficult to get some information about Learoyds Mill.

Hello
I have Quigleys registered in Fairymount, Kilderry, Londonderry.  There is a townland named Eskaheen in Kilderry.  Some of them also went to Greenock but I'm not sure of their names.

Further to my answer below, when I was talking to my aunt this morning, I thought her ears pricked up when I said the name Davis, although it's not the person you are looking for, I have had a look on Free BDM and it looks as if my grandmother's brother, Timothy Ryan was married to Gertrude Davis.  It must be my grandmother's brother because I know he was married to a woman called Gertie.  Children of Timothy and Gertrude were Timothy, Terence, Joseph and Mary.
This might be worth looking at further.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.  Armed with questions I have just been talking to my aunt who lives in Bradford but unfortunately she couldn't tell me anything, she just says that there are a lot of Ryans in Bradford and people didn't talk about things in those days, also she is old so perhaps can't remember things the same. Patrick is certainly the right age to have been a brother or cousin to my great grandfather.  Have you still got information on the Patrick Ryans you have discounted? if so I would appreciate seeing it.

Sorry I couldn't be more help but if I learn anything else I will let you know.

I don't know if Robert had brothers and sisters, but his father was William and his mother was Margaret Bourke.  Patrick is a name that runs through each generation of my mother's family.  Robert and his wife had one son, my grandfather William. The Ryans mentioned above are my mother's paternal family, her mother's family were also called Ryan and lived  in Lancashire, Leeds and Bradford.
My other Ryan gr grandfather, Timothy, definitely had a brother called Patrick.  Family stories say that Timothy born about 1862 in the Tipperary area went to America with his brother Patrick as young men.  In 1891 Timothy was in England and living in Bury in Lancashire with his wife and first child Katie, as he is in the 1891 census with them.  In 1901 he was married at Leeds Register Office, living at Harper Street, he is in Bradford by 1904 when my grandmother's youngest sister Johanna was born.  As far as I know Patrick also came back from America and lived in Bradford, I would imagine if he had sons he would have called one of them Patrick.  There were other brothers of Timothy and Patrick who also lived near to my mother when she was a child, I know there was a Thomas, a Joseph and James, as far as I know they were a large family.
Have you any addresses where your Ryans lived in Bradford and surrounding areas, also what other surnames are you looking for?

Hi
I have just found out that my Ggrandfather is buried in Bowling Cemetery, and was wondering if anyone is visiting there to ask if thay could see if there is a grave stone and let me know so I could visit.
His name is Allen Lee he died 1903 he is in section V grave number 242 in Con (consecrated) section.
Many Thank's

 Alan...

I have family buried in Bowling Cemetery and had a search done in August 2000, I found the staff there extremely helpful.  The cemeteries usually have more details about the person buried than is shown on a death certificate.  I found out the names of two sets of my great grandparent's parents which enabled me to find the marriage and births of my gr gr grandparents.  There was a very reasonable standard charge which if I remember rightly searched the records for up to four graves.  The address is Cemeteries & Crematoria, Scholemoor Cemetery & Crematorium, Necropolils Road, Bradford BD7 2PS.  The tel no at the time was 01272 571313.
Good Luck

Donegal / Doherty from Letterkenny
« on: Monday 26 July 10 22:50 BST (UK)  »
I have three Doherty families married into my Crown family.  Today I found a birth in Letterkenny for Hugh Doherty, born July-Sept 1911, father Danny, mother Maggie Crown.  Maggie was my grandmother's sister.  Does anyone have any connection to this Doherty family please?

regards
Moira
