Looking for information on John McKenna, of the 48th regiment of foot who was transferred to Tasmania in about 1818. Apparently he was a labourer from Rushden.

Possible, everything in Australia, and on the boat manifest says Giffin, but this could have been misspelled.
Would appreciate anything else you can find on this person. Please excuse me if I don't check in very often. I am in the middle of 3 weeks of university exams at this time.

Ayrshire / James Giffin

born circa 1813 in Ayrshire. On the boat manifest it looks like Dalry, or Dalby. He married Janet Henderson (maybe called Jessie) in Paisley Renfrewshire, had kids then emigrated to Australia on the Beejapore in 1853.

Sorry Pam, didn't mean to confuse you. My sister is 'married with kids' and she posted this for me before I registered myself. I now have a copy of Robert McCourtie's death certificate showing his birth place as Maryport. I posted a query and they have been found on the Maryport 1851 census. According to the 1851 Maryport census the father John was born in Scotland, but he is in Maryport for the census. Looking at the two census' the McCourtie's in Closeburn could very well be relatives. Both John's are the same age.

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Harriett Pearce- Hanbury Worcestor
« on: Tuesday 21 September 04 22:26 BST (UK)  »
No I believe the one christened in Hanbury is the correct one. Unfortunately others had compiled our family tree previously, and I believe there has been some sloppy detective work. I started looking at the family tree earlier this year, going into websites such as IGI to find further information on what I have been given, and there are some glaringly obvious errors in what I had been given. Our Harriett's parents were Geroge pearce and Ann last name unknown.
