Cork / Re: Location Help..
« on: Monday 04 June 12 22:07 BST (UK)  »
Thank-you for the replies.

The information was from c1850 and is the only entry I have with a specific location of birth.

The family name is Cokeley / Cokely / Coakley

Specifically this person is Timothy Cokely born c1799, he moved to Rotherhithe, London between his birth and the 1841 census.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Mat

Europe / Kaiser - Waldshut, Baden, Germany
« on: Friday 23 September 11 15:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Would really appreciate any help with this search.

I am tracing my G.G Grandfather Karl (Charles / Carl) Kaiser.

UK Census information from 1871 - 1911 indicates he was born in 1855 in Baden, Germany. I managed to trace grand children of Karl who from memory believe he originated from Waldshut although I have never been able to confirm this.

He married Eliza Howell in 1883 and they had 4 girls Kathleen May, Caroline Minnie, Marie Theresa & Elsie Dorothy living the majority their lives in Rotherhithe, London - his marriage certificate states his fathers name was also Karl Kaiser occupation Farmer

Karl by trade was a watchmaker / jeweller and had a shop in Union Rd, Rotherhithe

He never naturalised into the UK and wasn't interned during WWI due to age and length of stay in the UK.

On the 1871 Census he is staying with a Wilhelm Kaiser who appears to be his uncle - Wilhelm also is described as being from Baden and didn't naturalise into the UK. Wilhelm also married whilst in the UK - fathers name on the certificate is Kasper Kaiser (in theory this should be Karl's grandfather)

After Karl's death Eliza re-naturalised back into the UK however there is no information on Karl's family within the file.

Not sure where to go next - any help would be appreciated?!

Many Thanks

Mat

Hi All,

Sorry to re-visit this post so late however I am researching John Powell (Penn Powell) and finding more questions than answers.

John Powell was my G G Grandfather and I am trying to trace a birth record however no joy.

I can see from previous posts he was Baptised as Thomas John Powell Penn but I can not find any records to link him to John Powell.

Would really appreciate any help from anyone who knows the story here.

Many Thanks

Mat
