James Mathison was indeed the son in law of George and Mary Waldie.  George and Mary had a son called Archibald Waldie.  Archibald married Martha Stark and had a daughter Margaret Jessie Waldie.   Margaret Jessie Waldie married a George Stephenson and they had several children one of which was my grandfather Jessie Stephenson!

World War One / Re: Northumberland Fusiliers

My grandfather Ethelbert Elliott served in the Northumberland Fusiliers  Reg. No 48157. He joined in Hartley Witney on 7/10/1915.  He went to France on 6.10.1915 to 6.1.1917, back to France 7.1.1917 to 17.4.1917 Home 18.4.1917 to 13.11.1917.  He was shot in the face through his mouth .  He survived WW1 and married and had two children Brenda and Dennis (my father) but sadly died when my Father was just 7 years old.  We have lots of photos of him but I am not quite sure what battalion he served in.  I am told he was in the Battle of Arras whether he was injured there I don't know.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / WALDIE Family
« on: Thursday 04 October 07 11:46 BST (UK)  »
I have been tracing my family history in Yorkshire and found that the Waldie family exist in Sculcoates.  My oldest relative is a George Waldie 1779 born in Scotland had a son called Archibald Waldie 1821 from South Dalton, Yorkshire was married twice once to a Mary Ann Lusby and another wife called Martha Stark 1826 born in Hull.  Archibald had a daugther called Margaret Jessie Waldie who was my Grandad's Mother.  Margaret Jessie Waldie married a George Stephenson (Tinson is a name that comes up he was born Stephenson but step father was a William Tinson.  George Stephenson was the son of Jane Stephenson 1825 from Etton married a William Tinson 1826 Yorkshire died apr-may-june 1891.

We are totally confused why George was a Stephenson on his birth certicate but on other documents comes up as Tinson.  The Tinson family owned a building company in York which my Grandad Jesse and his brother Ernest set up.  Does anyone have any details of why this happened!! Adopted born out of wedlock I assume??
