London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1891 census look up - Johnson
« on: Tuesday 13 November 07 21:47 GMT (UK)  »
Im having trouble in finding my Gt Grandparents in the 1891 census.
His name is Robert Frederick Johnson, born in Shadwell, London appox 1861-2.
Her name is Ann (or Annie) Johnson same birth details.
I have found them in the 1901 census in RG13, piece 317, folio 9, page 10.
They were married in 1885 so should be together in 1891.
There should also be a daughter Annie who was 12 in 1901.
Many thanks

The Common Room / Marriage help please
« on: Tuesday 06 November 07 12:51 GMT (UK)  »
I am struggling to find a marriage between a John Wiegold (maybe Weigold) and a woman whose original name was Judith Wright, but who had previously married, becoming Judith Noble.
In the 1851 census she was a widow as Judith Noble (aged 27), but by July 1853 she had a daughter by John Wiegold who was called Susan Jane Wiegold.
She is down as Judith Wiegold as the mother on her daughters birth cert.
The marriage should have therfore been between 1851 and 1853. They both lived in the Bethnal Green / Stepney area of London.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Dave

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Help finding marriage
« on: Sunday 04 November 07 18:40 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please give me some help in finding a marriage of my Gt Gt Grandmother please. I have tried on Free BMD but to no avail.
She was originally born as Judith Wright, and married for the first time in 1841, becoming Judith Noble.
Her first husband died in 1849, and in the 1851 census she is down as head (widow) aged 27.
She then married a John Wiegold (or Weigold) as by 1853 they had a daughter called Susan Jane who was born on 07.07.1853.
The marriage must have been between the date of the 1851 census and when Susan was born in 1853 ??
It should (?)  have been in the Stepney / Bethnal Green area.
Mant Thanks
Dave

The Kidlington book quotes:-
" The earliest record of public houses in Oxford is in a volume called the Victuallers Recognizances Record Book dated 1753. Although no house names are given, the name of Mrs Anstiss Faulkner is given as one of the landlords. Other records show that Anstiss married Henry Faulkner in the 1720's and they had 8 children, 5 of whom died in infancy. Henry died in 1733 and his wife and his wife Anstiss continued to run the Inn until she died in 1759.
In 1758 her youngest daughter, Elizabeth , married John Watts and they had 9 children, 6 boys and 3 girls. When Anstiss died the public house passed to John.
John Watts was landlord for 25 years. When he died in 1784, Elizabeth carried on for a further 9 years. On her death in 1793. one of her sons, James Watts took over the licence and continued until he died in 1814 aged 52 years."

The name changed from the Anchor in 1855 after the Railway station opened, when it became The Railway Hotel, the finally THe Wise Alderman in 1967.

From the Kidlington book I have, ( although it was not correct with your other pub if you remember) it says the pub was built in the early 1700's before either the canal or the railway, although it aquired the name of the Anchor Beerhouse around the time the canal was built approx 1790.
What was the surname you are interested in  as there is a full history in the book?
