London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Govett family name
« on: Tuesday 25 December 07 21:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello Donna thankyou very much for replying to my request, I had forgotten I had posted it, as it seems a long while ago,and since then I have done much research into my mothers family of which I & my 2 brothers in England knew nothing about. (I am in Australia ) and one of my brothers has now passes away.
However, I now know that my mothers ( Edith Lilian Govett) maiden was indeed Smith, BUT I have now the document to say that her family changed their entire name to Hathaway for some unknown reason, as the same Christian names in my mother family, are also the same as on my grandmothers, ( My mothers mother) was Hathaway, but obviously when the births were recorded, the maiden name was given as Smith.
there is no marriage certificate between my mothers parents in the name s Smith but there is in Hathaway, as I say with the identical siblings names as witnesess. every thing else matches except for the surname. Vol 1 page 1741.
You asked about the name of the birth of her first 3 children
do you mean my mother, Edith Lilian Govett??? If so I can tell you that she was not actually married until 1957, BUT she lived extremley happily with my father. and had my 2 brothers and myself under my fathers name of Beckford.
a story behind this which I won't go into now.
My mother (Edith Lilian Govett) own mother was Edith Emily Smith / Hathaway. on the 1891 Census.
I have also found that my mother had 2 brothers of her own, ( Something we never know of course) Thomas V Govett in 1912, and Cecil R Govett in 1914, but on ther birth certificate the maiden name of Hathaway was given, but on my Mums birth certificate the maiden name was Smith, but the dates and places math other wise all in Camberwell, aslo.
I would be please to hear from you again if you wish to write
thankyou from Eileen Mason formally Lilian Eileen Beckford
