thanks again Pam

the plot thickens.....

if Edith is listed as being niece of the head of the household (John Parr) then his wife Hannah cannot be her sister. John Parr must then be the brother of Ann (Edith's mother). I know the ages of Hannah and Edith add up, but Edith would have been listed as 'sister in law' on the 1891 census.

if this is Edith then her parents either have farmed her out or they have died in the 1880s. Also where is Elizabeth?????

I think that this is my Edith but the Hannah is not her sister, it is her uncle's wife.

Thanks Pam,

Possibly if the 1891 shows an Elizabeth that would confirm it.

Cheers,

Hi All,

I was hoping someone could look up for me (possibly on the 1881 and 1891 census) the father, mother and siblings of my great grandmother, Edith Gaskell born 1880 in Wigan.

All I know so far is that she had a sister called Elizabeth born circa 1884.

I would particularly be interested in her fathers occupation.

Many thanks in advance.

Thats great Heather,

Thanks again for that.....I assume it would be a different address to the one Gadget posted, the Swansea Register Office perhaps....could anyone confirm this.

Cheers,

Russ

Thanks Heather and Gadget,

Yes he did die before 1891, in fact he died in 1887 in Wigan.

Heather, was that the only match in Wales between a Joshua Evans and Elizabeth Evans...if so it may well be worth taking a chance and getting the marriage certificate.

Thanks again,

Russ

Hi Heather,

Thank you very much for your reply.

What makes you think they were married in Swansea? 1874 does seem to be a good year since that is when their first daughter, Elizabeth was born, or at least circa 1874.

Elizabeth is down as being born in Welshpool again.

Thanks Gadget,

If you look down the posts you will find I have been trying for some time to discover more about him. The only time he has been mentioned on any census was 1881 and he puts himself down as being born in Welshpool.

I find it very puzzling he is not mentioned on any other census. I wondered if his father may have been in the army or perhaps a miner and he travelled with him...I doubt it but it may answer why he was in no census?? The only way I could see forward was to find his birth certificate and get the information from there but apart from that I think the trail may have gone cold.

Many thanks again,

Russ

Montgomeryshire / Birth certificate - Joshua Clark Evans - Where?
« on: Friday 04 July 08 09:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am keen to buy the birth certificate of my great great grandfather Joshua Clark Evans. By way of the census I believe he was born circa 1849 in Welshpool, Montgomeryshire and I want to find out who his parents were.

Could anyone point me in the right direction, ie who do I phone/e mail/write to to get the certificate.

The same goes for my great great grandmother, Elizabeth Evans (yes she had the same name...which did confusing me for a while). She again was born in Welshpool circa 1852.

Many thanks in advance,

Russ
