I cannot find a Sarah Ann Ridge in my (my husbands) side of the tree. The first Ridge to appear in our tree is a Lucy Ridge born 1874 in Montford Bridge who married John Blower in 1891.
Her parents were Robert Ridge b.1830 (in Llanerfyl) & Emma Sherry b.1842
Roberts parents were another Robert b.1803 who was married to Elizabeth Jones in 1830.
This Robert appears to have been the illegitimate son of a David Ridge b.1775 (at Rhosoflo) & Elinor Thomas b.1781 who married in 1808 and ran the Rhosoflo Farm.
There does appear to be a lot of Ridges in the area and yours may well be a different branch.
There were a few people of that name on the GenesReunited web site, you may be as well to put a post for help on there. You are welcome to look at my tree on that site but I know there are a lot of people who have a lot more names than I do.
Good luck with your searches, kind regards sheila

Graveyards and Gravestones / Re: Tip for reading headstones.

Hi,
Sounds like a good idea but surely you would need permission to do it & the foam or the squeegee itself may well cause damage. How on earth did you first have the idea to try it? Do you get strange looks from people when doing it?

Hi,
It has been a while since I've looked at the Ridge branch & it will take a day or two to dig out any info; what specifically are you after? What area are your Ridges from?
kind regards.

hi Sarak,
My mothers maiden name was Mitchell, she was born in St Just in Penwith, Cornwall & I have traced the family back to Henry Mitchell b. 1776 and then back futher but with less certainty to 1642.
I shall check out the website but not sure about DNA testing (is it expensive?)
regards Sheila.

Cheers everyone, I googled "rising sun badges" and there it was, great stuff. It is a pity I cannot make out the writing on the badge but just to know it was an Australian Commonwealth Military badge fits in well with the fact he went to Australia when he first left Cornwall. Thank you all again  :) regards sheila

Found this photo I think it is my Granddad (William Mitchell) when he went off to Australia around 1900, he then went to South Africa & back to Cornwall in 1910. Does anyone know what the uniform & badge are?
