Hi Downeaster,
The following MIs from Ruthwell may be of some interest to you.
Family names -  LANDELLS & MURRAY are mentioned as are the farm names HOWCREEK & MIDTOWN
Also the Parish of Ruthwell being close to Cummertrees and Mouswald, and Torthorwald adjoins Mouswald, together add to the relevance.
Cheers,
Sy

Hi Johnner Kid-
Many thanks for the information. The Landells I am sure are the same family. I suspect the Murrays may also be in my family line. The name Irvine also occurs on this side of the Atlantic.

Hi Murraysearch-
I don't think that your grandfather had a brother named David. Your Grandfather's father was George, also buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery. His father was David, the subject of my query. I knew your Uncle Fred fairly well. Our common ancester is George, who was married three times. I descend from his first marriage, you from his third. Would like to correspond (*).
Regards,
Downeaster

Dumfriesshire / Murrays - Dumfriesshire/New Brunswick Canada
« on: Friday 10 September 04 01:39 BST (UK)  »
My GGG grandfather was a David Murray, emigrated to the Miramichi River Valley of New Brunswick ca. 1820. His wife was Margaret or Marget Landells, christened 27 Apr. 1803 at Mousewald, Dumfries. The were burned out by the great Mirimichi forest fire of 1825. The tale passed down to me is that Margaret, with the four children (boys) then living, returned to Midtown, Cummertrees and stayed about a year while David relocated to Bathurst, New Brunswick. She returned to Canada with the two youngest boys, said to have been Charles and John, leaving the two oldest, said to have been Arthur (I doubt the Arthur, appears to have been a highly unlikely Scottish name) and William, at Midtown. The had at least seven more children. Margaret's brother, David Landells, 1806-1891 and his wife Annie Dobie 1813-1894 m. 8 Oct. 1830 Torthorwald, Dumfries subsequently (ca. 1835-1841) emigrated to the Bathurst area. Their first child, Janet Landells, was said to have been b. at Midtown ca. 1835. Does any of this seem familiar to anyone? Can anybody give me a clue as to what family David Murray may have come from? East Howcreek (which borders Midtown) perhaps? Not much information on this side of the Atlantic except a couple of census entries that confilct regarding birth year, one ca. 1791, the other ca. 1800.
