Hi Josie & Joe,

First of all, my apologies for not replying sooner---we've been away again.

Joe, thanks for the info and the map!  They makes things a lot clearer!

Josie, thanks for your reply too!  It looks, as John & Hannah were sponsors at the birth of Henry Gallacher (issue of John Gallacher & RoseAnn Bryce/Briesland/etc.) and Hannah was a Lynch, that she could have been related to Catherine Lynch.  However, how to prove?  Hopefully two heads will be better than one!

I'll try & send you a PM with my email address.  Cheers for now,

Bill

Hi Josie,

Sorry to take so long in answering but we've been away visiting grandchildren.

The only thing I can speak to is that our Catherine Lynch (married to our GGF, Henry Briesland/Bryce/etc.) was the mother of Rose Ann Bryce who married John Gallacher.  Rose Ann and John were the parents of Henry Gallacher, born 1880 in Ballynagard, Kilderry, Londonderry, and it was to this child that John & Hannah Clery were the sponsors.  We found this information on the St Patrick's RC Church BMD in Iskaheen.  The connection between Catherine Lynch, Henry Briesland, daughter, Rose Ann Bryce, and the Gallachers was confirmed by several people, one of whom still lives in the area.

Henry Bryce/Bresland/Briesland/etc. died in Ballynagard, a townland close to St. Patrick's, in 1870 at which point, his widow, Catherine Lynch moved to Greenock to live with a couple of her daughters, eg Rose Anne & Mary.  Catherine died in Greenock in 1886, aged 69 and is buried there.

We are interested in finding out more about Catherine's earlier life, parents, etc. as well as her husband, Henry.

Hope this helps one way or another.  Let me know.

Cheers for now,

Bill

PS I'm still unclear about Ballynagard's location at this earlier age.  Was it in a County Derry civil parish or a RC parish, or in County  Donegal?

Thanks, Carole.  It does have much more detail but I was hoping that the Roll Of Honour might give me a little more.
Cheers for now,

Thanks, Carole. I had previously seen the cwgc site.  It also has Pte. Charles John Bryce on it.  I was hoping to see if there was any additional information on the Roll of Honour.

Rafter,  I don't believe I've come across this article before now and found it very interesting!  I was in the house on Thom St when it was bombed, albeit a bit too young (2 and a half) to remember much.  Shauna Bryce was my cousin while Felicana Delacruz was my father's.

Thanks again to the both of you.

Renfrewshire / Greenock Roll of Honour
« on: Wednesday 12 January 11 18:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I came across a site (Scottish War Memorial Project) mentioning that there was a Roll of Honour book for Greenock.  I was wondering if there was anyone that had a copy that could look up the following people for me.

1.  Pte. Charles John Bryce, 1st/5th Bn.,Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, died 8 Nov. 1917 in Gaza, Palestine.
2.  Maria Feliciana Delacruz died as result of enemy action 16 April 1941 at 7 Thom St., Greenock.
3.  Felicana (Shauna) Bryce died from injuries suffered as result of enemy action 17 April, 1941, at 7 Thom St., Greenock.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Rosemary,

Great to hear from you!  You're right, the names you mentioned do seem to coincide between our families.

I would like to view you family tree.  I also wonder if you know when & where Henry Brisland was born (we think County Derry) and died.  I also wonder if you have any photos of Mary or Hugh.  All our family pictures were destroyed in the Blitz.   I've been told that it's unsafe to post my email address here, so you should send me a PM (i.e. a personal message).  The "Help" section will tell you how.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers for now,

Bill

PS I see I've made a mistake in my message of 21 June 08 above.  Rose Ann BRYCE/Fleming/Gallagher should read Rose Ann BRYCE/Milne/Gallagher.
