Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Hebden Bridge 1841 or 1851 census
« on: Monday 22 October 07 19:24 BST (UK)  »
Greetings,   This is another one for Thomas Smith.  He was born in Keighley but his children thought he was born in Hebden Bridge.  He would have been 3 or 4 in /41 census and 13 or 14 in /51 census.  Would someone check to see if he was living in Keighley or Hebden Bridge.   The old family tree has him connected to Cockshott family of Kildwick Hall.   THE MYSTERY DEEPENS.    Thorny     Thanks in advance.

Hi Nanny Jan,  I ordered with a Visa Card but got a message that due to a clerical error they couldn't process.  I am now waiting for another Visa card (with a lower Limit) on the advice of a genealogy buff and then I will try again.  I guess I need to feel that I'm making some progress.          Regards, Thorny

I tried to order this but things got very mixed up and I am in canada.  I am hoping to find out who Thomas Smith's parents were.  He may have been illegitimate but according to an old family tree he had a younger brother, John who immigrated to US.   His children said he was born in Hebden b ridge but he was born in Keighley!  Another mystery.       Miserable weather, how are you guys.      Thorny  I just got something about copywright.  All I want is info. re Thomas' parents so I hope this is OK.s

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Cockshutts and Kildwick
« on: Tuesday 02 October 07 22:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi Meg,  According to this family tree I have been trying to verify we are supposed to be related to a John Cockshott that lived in Kildwick Hall.  However that has been shotdown as I have just learned(via another helper) that  Ruth, a dau. of John Cockshott was a spinster.  Ruth was supposed to have married a Smith and have been my gggrandmother.  So now I'll have to find out how to get my ggrandfathers birth cert.  I'm 70 so this mental exercise is supposed to be good for me.     Thorny

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Cockshutts and Kildwick

Can anyone help me make a link between John Cockshutt, magistrate and Kildwick.  The family story has it that he rented Kildwick Hall between his birth 1749 and death 1812.  The graveyard at Kildwick is full of Cockshutts.  My mother remembered seeing his robes of office.     Thanks for all your help,  Thorny

Here's another one for you guys.  ggggrandfather William Steel Brooke b.1793 d. 1869 married Mary Wilkinson b.1796 d/ 1885.  I have no info for the son William Steel Brooke who married Eliz Casson b.1820 d. 1849. I'm sure I saw gravestones at Kildwick with these names.  We visited in 1986.  How come the middle name Steel?   I hope this is fun for you.    Thorny
