Thank you all so much. I would never have guessed that but I'll take on board everything you said about including more details next time if possible.

Thanks again

Hi

I'm having trouble deciphering this address from a birth certificate in 1872. Can anyone help with the address in particular?

Thanks
Mark

Hi everyone

Thanks for the prompt replies. Much appreciated and good to know that I was on the right lines. Probably explains why he died of bronchitis if he was working in the conditions of those factories.

Thanks again

Family History Beginners Board / Re: UK Death Certificates Query

Hi

Thanks for your help. I don't mind paying as I have done to get the Scottish versions I've needed. I just wasn't sure where the best resource was to order the UK versions.

My gut feeling is that it's likely the 1919 death in Gateshead that I need as it feels more closely linked to the info I have. I had checked the names on the 1921 census and couldn't see him on it so presumed he'd died or potentially left the family. I know my grandad didn't really know him though so presumed he'd died.

I'll look into buying it tonight.

Thanks
Mark

Family History Beginners Board / UK Death Certificates Query
« on: Friday 17 June 22 09:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for some information with regards to how to get UK Death Certificates. I've managed to go back through a few generations using the Scotlands People site, cross referencing census records and death certificates etc which has proved useful in providing mothers maiden names etc.

Is there a recommend place to search and download UK death certificates? For example I've got a Charles Logan (occupation Cooper, born 1872) born in Edinburgh but I can see he's moved to Jarrow and then potentially Gateshead as that's where the more recent family are from.

I can see a death record in 1919 in Gateshead but not sure where I could see that death certificate to see if it matches up with the same person.

I did try a few links suggested including a government link but then it just 404's once you go through a few steps.

Thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Struggling to decipher occupation
« on: Friday 17 June 22 08:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I was hoping someone might be able to help me decipher the occupation on the second line here. My guess was that it was possibly 'Wool Spinner' as I know his son and other members were weavers.

I have attached a copy of the portion of the death certificate in question and would appreciate anyones opinions on what it could be.

Thanks in advance

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Cause Of Death Unsure

Hi

I'd appreciate any suggestions of the cause of death on this death certificate of one of my ancestors. I haven't a clue what it says.

Also, the bit where it says .... weaver. I cannot work out what his fathers occupation was.

Thanks
Mark

I've not been too well over the past few days so didn't get a chance to follow up on all of the info provided. Just had a quick glance on the forum to get a quick refresher and find a whole lot of new info! I genuinely never expected so many replies to my original question.

I may be able to enhance those documents in a editing software I use to see if we can decipher them a bit better. Looks like I've got a mountain of info to trawl through in my spare time though   :)

I'm not sure what to make about George Rose and his many vocations through the years unless as you say the census docs have been deciphered incorrectly.

Discussing with my dad at the weekend though, he did say when he was young he remembered his dad taking him to travelling fairs and introducing him to his 'cousins'. Chances are these were descendants of George Rose
