World War One / Re: Military Medal WW1

Thank you both for your replies, I realise that there is not much chance of him being mentioned in the War Diaries but at least with a time scale I may be able to pin down where his unit was.
I did send for his records long before they came online, but unfortunately they did not survive.

Thanks again

Hello Dave

My grandfather serving with the 2nd Batt. Coldstream Guards was awarded the Military Medal it was Gazetted 27th October 1916. Looking at your recent post would I be right in saying I would need to be looking at the War Diaries about 3 months prior to it being in the Gazette.

Thanks

Lancashire / Re: Wilfred Eastwood 1893-1950 WW2

I looked into a death for Bertha and like yourself disregarded the two which could match the time frame, coming to the same conclusion that they had divorced. Did look for another marriage for Bertha just to clear things up but that also came to nothing.

Thanks for that, I did wonder if there were any children from his marriage to Bertha.

Thanks for your replies, Tony & Radcliff I do have the majority of the information you have provided but thanks again for taking the time to look into this.
Cathy that does look like the William Eastwood I am interested in. With the information you have provided I will put a post on the WW2 message board. Maybe someone can provide some extra information about his service.
Thank you all again.

Realise it will not help finding John's birth, but his death was announced in the Sunderland Echo Tuesday 11th March 1941. Page 4

DONKIN - At Cherry Knowle Hospital, on March 8, aged 50 years, John the dearly beloved husband of Mary Ann Donkin. Interment at Mere Knolls Cemetery on Wednesday, cortege leaving residence (9 Thompson Street) at 2.30. p.m. R.I.P.

There does not appear to be a headstone.

Lancashire / Wilfred Eastwood 1893-1950 WW2

Currently researching Commonwealth War Graves also including those who are named on family headstones in Ryhope Cemetery, Sunderland. One such headstone is for Wilfred Eastwood. Wilfred's birth was registered June Q 1893 in Bury, the son of David & Ellen Eastwood (nee Harry). In 1939 he is residing at 13 Cross Princess Street, Farnworth, Lancashire with widow Jemima Smith (nee Ingram).
Wilfred marries Jemima 9th June 1943 at St. Paul's Church, Ryhope, Jemima originally from Ryhope.
The death of Wilfred, aged 56, occurs on the 2nd March 1950 at 13 Cross Street, Farnworth, death certificate gives cause of death as 1a Cardiac Hypertrophy & Dilatation 1b Arteriosclerosis. He was laid to rest on the 6th March in Ryhope Cemetery.
A section of the inscription on the headstone states: Roll of Honour, He Gave His Life For His Country
1939 - 1945.
I have been unable to find a record of Wilfred's war service, is there anyone who perhaps has carried out research or may be related to Wilfred who can shed some light as to where he served.
Would be more than pleased to forward photo of headstone to anyone interested.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hello there

Have been researching the Shillaw family name for some years now, if there is anything I can assist you with I would be only too pleased to help. As you can see from my earlier messages on this board my family line is also through Thomas & Mary Ann Shillaw (nee Cole), then to my GGrandparents James Cole & Elizabeth Ann Shillaw (nee Coates).
If you send a private message with the information you require, will see what I can do to help
Unfortunately I have no information on the Carney family.
