Cheshire / Caine - Altrincham, Bowdon

I have traced my lineage to a marriage between James Cain(e) (b @ 1820) and Ann Linskey both of Galway. They married in 1844 - St Pauls Warrington.  respective fathers Martin Cain(e) & James Linskey.  Also a Julia Cain(e) a witness at the wedding.

I have had the dna testing done via Rory Cains CAINE dna website & it comes back as definitley Galway - with Major Rory Cain as a direct link via dna.

I am also trying to trace James & Anns daughters - Mary Cain(e) b 1845 Warrington & Catherine Caine b 1856 Altrincham Cheshire.

I can trace Mary to Bury in 1861 census where she worked in a tea suppliers shop (owner ex Altrincham) & also to Deansgate Manchester where she worked in a Polish jewellers shop in 1871 census - thereafter nothing.

Catherine I can trace only to 1871 census - age 15 working as a domestic servant - living with parent Ann & other siblings in Chapel Street Altrincham - thereafter nothing at all. In this 1871 census they are listed as surname Caird - - & Catherine as Kate.

I used to walk past a childrens home on the left as you walked up Richmond Hill (Road) towards Bowdon CofE primary school - this would be 1952 to 1957 - I can't for the life of me remember its name though - but there were only 3 or 4 very big houses (ex cotton magnate mansions) on the left as you walked up this hill.

Oooops - just looked at posts above - the name was INGLEDENE - it all comes back now !!

The other main childrens home in Bowdon was Beechmount on Langham Road - & this was definitely still 'active' in the '70s

Shane - many thanks for the Linsky info.  Looks like Dunmore is a distinct possibility.

The Stockport Caines I am aware of & they are a different family to those I seek - my Cains are in the 1851 census in Altrincham, Cheshire - but listed as surname Kean - occ given as fish dealer. (marr. cert in !844 shows name as Cain).  Subsequent censuses gives name Cain then later Caine.

Usual tale i think - an Irish accent & you can't read or write - so the scribe puts you down as what he hears

Does anyone have any further information or can point me in right direction to track Martin & James Cain(e) or James Linskey in Galway?  i have had the dna testing done via Rory Cains CAINE dna website & it comes back as definitley Galway - with Major Rory Cain as a direct link via dna.
