thanks for your offer just come off phone with his only surviving daughter, whos given me more info  so I was able to do a better search and I found it all on ancestry  25 pages!!!  had his ear drums   blown in by shell attack and fractured his thigh bone in same attack. ancestry told me he was in 3 hospitals before being invalided out with 2/6 shillings pension!.  Ive spoken to my aunt before but obviously hadn't asked the right questions!!

The Lighter Side / Re: old sayings

my mum had a few sayings some I still use

He don't know how many beans make five...

not the brightest star in the sky

Gone out and left the light on in the basement

nothing wrong with her that an expensive operation wouldn't prolong....   for a hypochondriac that lived near us!
when mum had been chatting to a neighbour  and need to get back to her housework shed  say "Im Standing round like a pint of milk on a door step in summer".......  curdled and no use to anyone

Throwing the bathwater out with the baby.

whats for tea? iffit pie..........  if you eat it that's ok but if you don't you'll go hungry

and the one I use on my kids...  if your going to fight that's fine, just don't leave blood on the carpet

in the 1841 census William and Mary burton( both born Horncastle) have a child named selina who it states was born in Horncastle.    the marriage in 1853 seems to pertain to this selina.

MY selina in the 51.61.71.81.91.01,and 11 census all state she was born in Cambridgeshire. but I cant find her in 1841 census

JOHN SMITH  b 1933 in Horncastle lincs married SELINA ?? b 1832 born in Newmarket Cambridgeshire or Cambridge ( depending on which census)  I cant find the marriage.  I thought I had found it 1853 in Horncastle, with selinas father listed as William BURTON. and john as Samuel Smith.  however on further investigation they are the wrong family as  selina  Burton was born in Lincolnshire.
The first child to the marriage was John smith born 1855 in Horncastle and they have 11 other children born in Tetford Lincolnshire
many thanks
Can anyone find the marriage and selina and johns parents
many thanks

my grandfather CRESSWELL REAY b 1893  in Hartlepool . Was in the First world war and injured at ypres.  the family tell me he was in hospital at  Oswestry for many months .   he died in 1962 aged 68, but I can remember him being confined to bed in his latter years.
1.  has oswestry always been an orthopaedic hospital, or was it used as something else after ww1
2. how can I find out why he was in hospital.
3 he enlisted on 2/3/14 discharged on 5/4/19 listed as 392(xvia) sick.  what does this mean?
Many thanks
Christine
