Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Re: William Pratt - marriages in Hinckley area

Thanks for that.

I saw that Thomas King was married before - in 1788 to Mary Gays in Hinckley.  I haven’t managed to find Mary King’s burial, which would have been between 1797 when their last son John was born in Hinckley and 1803 when he married Catherine.  Can anyone spot first wife Mary King’s burial too?

You are good spotting that one Ciderdrinker!  I wonder if Catherine’s baptisms can be found in either of those places!!!

Thanks for that ciderdrinker.  It may help as Catherine’s father William Pratt is described as a labourer on her marriage entry to William Thompson in 1839. A miller trade seems a bit more professional and so perhaps this is not him…..

Thanks for all looking.  It has been a real challenge finding what happened to Catherine after her husband Thomas King died in 1819.  I spotted two potential marriages for her - one being to Daniel Merrick in Leicester although no other documents to confirm it was right.  I then saw a marriage of Catherine Merrick to William Thompson in Coventry in 1839.  The Coventry St Michael records were partially burned in the war so the online certificate just showed the father as William … so I order the certificate from the GRO.  In the meantime I found Catherine and William Thompson in Long Lawford - Catherine being born in Hinckley.  I also found descendants of one of Catherine and Thomas Kings daughters in Long Lawford, giving me hope.  The marriage certificate arrived, showing her father as William Pratt - much to my relief, and then I ordered the digital death certificate image of Daniel Merrick in Hinckley in 1838 and this showed it was witnessed by Catherine Merrick, wife.  It all finally added up!

Now to find out about Catherine’s parents  - I’m wondering if they might be William and Mary as there is a death of a Mary Pratt in 1785 in Hinckley and then perhaps William married Sarah Harrold in 1786 in Hinckley.

Catherine is confusing about her age -all entries are from Long Lawford where in 1841 she puts her age at 50; in 1861 she is 73; then in 1861 she is 83; before dying in 1867 aged 84! Bit of an age range there then!!

Thanks Colin - I’m sorry I was not clear as it was the marriage licence itself that I’ve been unable to locate as I was hoping it may give some more clues!

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / William Pratt - marriages in Hinckley area

Hi

I am researching a Catherine Pratt who married Thomas King in 1803 in Hinckley (by licence but I cannot find that licence!).

Her birth year is put at around 1783 from later census’ and her death record - she is in Long Lawford 1841-1861 as wife of William Thompson at that time - born in Hinckley.

However, I cannot find a baptism.  Her marriage to William in 1839 states her father to be William Pratt a labourer.

There appear to be several William Pratts having children in Hinckley around that time: William & Mary (Ann - 1779); William & Ann (Joseph 1779); William & Elizabeth (Ann 1775, Elizabeth 1779; and Joseph 1782); and William & Mary (Mary 1779). However, I can only find marriages for a William to Amey in 1793 and a William to Sarah Harrison/Harrold in 1786 in Hinckley.

Can anyone help me unravel this mystery by finding a baptism for Catherine Pratt around 1783; in the Hinckley area; and the missing marriages above in the hope that it gives me a lead?

Thanks in advance

Thankyou - I can’t quite believe that you found them so quickly, as I’ve searched a number of times!

Much appreciated.

How do I search Ancestry using my mobile with that enumeration reference number as it’s not immediately showing when I search?

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / William and Catherine Thompson

Hi

Can anybody spot William and Catherine Thompson in the 1841 and 1851 census?

I have William and Catherine in 1861 living in Long Lawford.  William is aged about 77 (so born about 1784) in Long Lawford, and Catherine about 83 (so born around 1778) in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Catherine died in Feb 1867, and is buried at Newbold Avon, as wife of William from Long Lawford although aged 84 so born abt 1783/84.  William is listed as a widower in Long Lawford in 1871 census.

But I cannot find the couple in earlier census’, nor can I find Williams death/burial!  Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance.
