Hello Lu.

Do you know when the Christ Church congregation at Taita was established, and or when their church was built, as 1857 is fairly early.

Alan.

Yes I do.  :D      Why do you ask ?

Date of marriage was 12 May not 12 April.

As helpful as these ITM notices are, I'm finding with my own searches that it's worthwhile also checking the transcription of same, against the actual (original) scanned entry, provided.

So just posting the following for clarification.  ;)

In the case of the CATT-MORRIS 1857 marriage >

Date of (ITM) Notice =  24th April 1857
Date of Certificate* = 9th May 1857
[* Certificate is issued on the exact date of the marriage] :

Also, the transcription of this particular ITM shows the place of marriage as (Episcopalian Church)
"known as Whitehead Church".   "Whitehead" is incorrect - it's a transcription error.
The Episcopalian Church at Taita, Hutt, was/is in fact known as "Christ Church" (Taita).
Noting though that the original scanned record shows "Christchurch" (as one word). ;D

Thought that it might have been a German ship.

" Margaretha Roesner" ... belongs to Lubeck (one of the free cities of Germany) ... she was built there 2 years ago ... (ship) very comfortably fitted for a small number of passengers .
["Lyttelton Times" 6 July 1859 ]

[Had found earlier another reference which stated (incorrectly ?) that she was a "Dutch" ship. ]

Hi

Looks like the spelling may be "M...   R O E S N E R" ?   ( This spelling appears to have many  more "hits" at PapersPast).

   ~  Lu

PS :  Search term used at PapersPast was (simply) " r o e s n e r" (- there are a number of variations on  "Margaretha" ... "Margarita" / "Margaretta"  / "Margeretta" ... etc. )

Hello HistoryBuffalo,

Can I ask where the name of Michael B* has come from? as I cannot find it in the above thread.

*Is this person still living? If so, you will need to delete his name from your post.

Minniehaha.

Hi Minniehaha

Just wanted to issue an alert.  :)

YES, the person for whom information is being sought by HistoryBuffalo > listed here as "M...... B " and alternatively as "M....... H" (one and the same), >  is still living, although is now resident in another country.

Are you able please to assist HistoryBuffalo (via a Moderator) to remove references to this living person from
Reply # 39 [ last line "How .... " ]
Reply # 42  ... where surnames are stated.

    Cheers   ~ Lu

PS :   Am able to offer clues to HistoryBuffalo, on further resources to check.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Davies Morgan
« on: Wednesday 06 August 25 01:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi Darren

Thanks for the message. Have you made contact in your searches for your particular line, with the line of Henry William Davies & wife Hannah, parents of Morgan, Simon, Sarah, Mary Ann and 1 other.

William worked on a property named "ellesmere", and daughter Mary Ann married James Tallentire, if this helps.

If you do come across someone after this particular family, please get in touch with us.  We will keep the album until we can find the correct family.

Britt

Now that it is 2025 there is much more information available online, including official records, which aids us in gathering details for families.    I'm adding some here for clarification of Britt's message and hope it may be of assistance ??   :)

Comments for items marked in "blue" :  >

*   The name of this man appears to be Henry Edward DAVIES (rather than "Henry William")
His wife Hannah DAVIES died 16 July 1900 aged 69 /  Henry Edward DAVIES of Irwell died on 15 August 1918 aged 80.
They are buried together at Springston Cemetery, Canterbury North.   Their headstone also mentions their son Simon who died aged 16 years, on 3 February 1876.

In an adjacent plot at same cemetery, there is a headstone for Morgan John DAVIES, 1858-1938 and his wife Sarah Alice DAVIES, 1867-1941.

*   Henry Edward DAVIES, (not "William") a farmer, owned land (freehold) at Irwell.   At one time, possibly due to a boundary change, he is listed in the Ellesmere Electorate, though still residing in Irwell.   Prior to this, the electoral district he was registered in was known as Selwyn.

...  specific bequests made to his son - Morgan John DAVIES,  and daughter, Mary Ann TALLENTIRE.  His other children also named.
Confirmation (affidavit of Morgan John DAVIES) that his sister married James Everest (or Everist) TALLENTIRE (also explanation and correction, as to why her husband was erroneously described in Will as "Thomas" rather than "James").

From NZ BDM - Birth index >

1870 / 30145 - DAVIES - Mary Ann - Parents:  Hannah and Henry Edward

1874 / 37186 - DAVIES* - Mary Ann - Parents:  Emma North and Morgan
[*  Two earlier children to this couple registered as "DAVIS" ]

Note:   Hello Britt (if you are reading this thread) ... do hope that you were able to reunite the photo album with the correct family.    :)    ~   Lu
